RIP Skip, you were the MAN!!! Not only did you have LSU Baseball at the pinnacle of the mountain but you turned LSU Football into a National Power forever!

Condolences, terrible loss
I’ve always viewed his as LSU’s spurrier but for baseball: really elevated their baseball program and had a ton of classic zingers and moments on the microphone.

Skip helped elevate college baseball as a whole.

Ben Mcdonald tells stories about how he would send players into the stands to go get foul balls so they would not have to buy more. He left college baseball in a MUCH better position than he found it. RIP Skip

Skip Bertman and Ron Polk not only did great things for their respective schools but made all SEC teams begin taking their baseball programs seriously and putting effort into improving their programs. They really put college baseball on the map in the southeastern conference.

We had something of a healthy rivalry with Skip. He would beat us to death some years but we won a few but regardless, it was hard to dislike the guy as a man, a coach and competitor. Some give Ron Polk credit for building the interest in college baseball and I suppose that's true but Skip took it to a whole nother level. RIP Coach!

"Greatest baseball mind"...I looked for the video but it's out there. When Skip was the assistant coach at Miami, he came up with the greatest fake pick off play ever. His pitcher kept the ball on a fake toss to first base. The first baseman yelled & jumped up in the air; the right fielder came running in to the first base line behind first base. The runner, thinking the ball was over thrown, took off for second base. The pitcher just turned & threw the runner out at second base. No one on the other team had a clue about what happened.

I ran into him at Sam’s in Baton Rouge a couple of years ago. I got to thank him for everything. He was very nice, he was down to earth we had a very pleasant conversation. May he rest in peace.

In no way do I mean to diminish what Saban has meant to college football. We know we had him here. But Skip basically reinvented college baseball the game itself off the field. He showed the entire nation what college baseball could be.

Skip is why Saban became what he became.
He was the one that brought him to the SEC and Saban has said on many occasions that he constantly picked Skip's brain.
He was his favorite AD.

I remember what baseball was at LSU before Skip was hired by Bob Broadhead, just an afterthought. He made LSU Baseball into the brand it is today. Skip, to me, will always be the greatest coach ever hired at LSU. He will be sorely missed and prayers to his family! RIP Coach Bertman!
