Sounds like Mainieri will be making the retirement official.

Now official...

LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri, who led the Tigers to the 2009 national championship and is No. 1 among active NCAA Division I coaches in career victories, announced Friday that he will retire at the end of the 2021 season.

Insider for us basically says Tony wants 33 million for renovations up front and his staff to be paid more. Doesn’t care about his salary because he knows that will come with it. The boosters are apparently willing to pay a lot of it (would be surprised) but Danny apparently isn’t completely on board. frick that Mickey Mouse frick. We’ll frick this up it’s Tennessee it’s just what we do

Rogers report last week A&M was planning a 30 M facility upgrade to Olsen Field. I'd say Olsen is quite a bit ahead of Lindsay at this point already.

And A&M is known to pay. Look what Jimbo's staff is paid. Just ridiculous.

The guy who just "turned A&M down" got a long term contract that renews yearly worth well north of 1 M a year.

Just let him go. He'll be happier at A&M. His needs will be met.

Won a natty in football in '19. Most conference wins in basketball the last 3 years and only team to get a double bye all 3 years. Just made about the bear hire possible in women's basketball. AD has shown the willingness to go get the big name hire along with the pedigree of the baseball program. Expect a big hire there too. I think we're doing just fine there.

Mainieri is going to retire for health reasons.

This is a smart move to Lsu. They announce to the world they're searching for a coach. But CPM isn't gone. He's still there to finish the year. The committee can do him a solid for one last right in regionals.

I respect Danny White as one of the better young AD's out there, and obviously that entire family knows all the ins and outs of big time college athletics. That being said, if this is strictly a Danny vs. Woody competition in the end, Tennessee is shite out of luck.

ETA - I have no clue where Vitello falls on LSU's list. So all of this may not affect Tennessee whatsoever.

This was definitely 4D chess to announce this before the regional draws. LSU knows that the NCAA knows that’ll put more butts in seats and more eyes on TVs for LSU games. Smart move

Insiders say Vitello wants the Arky job eventually, has already turned down A&M and probably not coming to LSU either.

For us it’s pretty much either O’Sullivan or Godwin
