Auburn a better job then ND,USC,Michigan and FSU?

Yeah, I think they just had USC down because of probation. No way USC isn't a top 3 job in the country otherwise. I'd say Auburn and FSU are pretty even, though I'd give FSU a slight nudge because of being in FL for talent. Not sure why folks are dogging GA as well, just because Goff and Richt have screwed the pooch doesn't mean they aren't a top 5 place to coach. People are placed way too much value on history rather than actual built in advantages.

I'd say the actual list not counting USC probation would be more like:
1. Texas
2. USC
3. Florida
4. Ohio State
5a. Georgia
5b. LSU
5c. Alabama
8. Oklahoma
9. Penn State
10. ND
11. Michigan
12. FSU
13. Auburn
14. Oregon
15. Nebraska
16. Tenn

Did the 1990s not happen now?

If it wasn't for Cam Newton carrying Auburn to a national title, the author would have probably put Auburn around 17.

but we won the title, so any other scenario is pretty much invalid at this point.

A bad decade doesn't change anything. Every team has had them. Overall, I still think Oklahoma is the most consistent.

One title doesn't change things that much.

I'm not living in the past. auburn is not a better job than notre damn or usc. I absolutely despise nd. In some ways more than auburn, but that doesn't change the fact that it is still one of the top 5 coaching jobs in college football. Their recent stretch isn't gonna change that.

Counterpoint, I don't think 1 National Title is enough to leapfrog those teams into the top 10.

There are too many variables in lists like these anyway, is it the coaching staff that makes it a top 10 job? Or is it the school that makes it one?

Seriously guys it's not the most historically awesome coaching job. It's the best job, meaning easiest to succeed and thrive. Bama fans: get your panties out of a bunch.

it is hard to argue against their list - esp when you consider the rational arguments put into each school

I would slide OU behind Florida and move Auburn out of the top 10 (and move FSU and USC way up)...

but it is a thoughtful list for this type of idiocy

I'm sorry but USC has no business being that high. Living in Cali alone is punishment.

I don't want to be defending Auburn here but how is the USC job any different from Miami? Both programs have shitty archaic, athletic facilities, an enormous pool of local talent to draw from, a huge bandwagon fanbase, etc....

4. Florida The forthcoming cavalcade of SEC schools probably should be listed as 4a-4d, but my bosses won't let me have a four-way tie. So the SEC East's best jobs get a slight nod over the SEC West's best jobs only because the competition doesn't seem so cutthroat in the East. You're only supposed to win the national title every other year at Florida or Georgia; at LSU and Alabama, you're supposed to win the national title every year. Sure, Florida has to compete with Florida State and Miami for recruits, but there is plenty of talent in the Sunshine State to go around. The state of Florida produces more talent than any other, and the University of Florida is the flagship university and the only SEC member within a 10-hour drive of the extremely fertile grounds on the southern end of the state.

Notre Dame in a bad year is more prestigious than half that list on a good year.

Is that why coaches have been going there to die the past couple decades? Don't think the list was a popularity contest as much as it was showing where it's easiest to win (ATM).

It all boils down to where you can go as a coach and succeed..

recruiting base weren't concrete factors in that list.

I would think that is the only reason for LSU and Georgia to be above Bama, so they are taking that into consideration.

However, if the average person walks into a room with coach from Auburn and Notre Dame the person will be more impressed with the ND coach.

When was ND's last NC....93' right?

Thats all fine and dandy, but what this list is saying (the way i'm reading it anyways) is that at this point in time, Auburn is a better coaching job than the likes of USC, ND, FSU due to not only the recruiting base and alumni support and all that garbage, but as of now, the program is in a better state than those programs.

ND and FSU are still in pretty big rebuilding mode(however FSU could end up being very good this year and Fisher has done will rebuilding the talent level). ND, well they still suck and have a lot of work to do, making the coaching job less appealing. USC, they are on probation right now, making it less of a top job.

Yes, historically, those programs are better and more prestigious, but at this point in time, the AU job is a better grab due to the state of the program. (yes I know that will change in a year or two when we get the death penalty)
