Knee jerk response from the B1G / PAC mantra where this is easy because the conference is easy. 9 conference games and you will see the SEC cannibalize itself and lose bowl spots which is what the B1G and PAC want.

To be honest, I couldn’t care less about weed eater bowl eligibility for average teams. With the updated playoff system, it’s going to be even more meaningless in a few seasons. Less OOC patsies is good for CFB, and you won’t change my mind. If you can’t qualify for a bowl without playing App State, then be better.

I care about watching good games against good competition. The conference and it’s teams already make plenty of money, with more on the way. One extra bowl bid isn’t worth watching full weeks of crap games, with only the slightest possibility of a potential upset every few years.

That going to 9 games isn't "punishment" when your OOC rival is a cupcake - referencing GA/GA Tech here if unclear.

They have as many wins over UGA as y'all do like the past 15+ years.

It should be 8 because all conference games equal out to a .500 record. More games will just lower the overall win% of the conference, make it appear weaker than it really is, and overall just make the conference look worse.

We got a good dose of this in 2020 with the all SEC game. Good SEC teams were unranked based completely on their record. Then those teams went into bowl games against ranked teams from weaker conferences and kicked the shite out of them.

Until voters and the committee can properly apply strength of schedule, rather than only when "records are equal", going to more SEC games will have negative consequences for the conference as a whole.

I went back ten years. It's true. Auburn and Georgia Tech each have two wins over Georgia since the 2012 season.

And 1 of Auburn's wins meant absolutely nothing.

East
Georgia has Georgia Tech and Clemson
Florida has Florida State and Miami
South Carolina has Clemson and North Carolina
Kentucky has Louisville (Indiana & Cincinnati historically)
Tennessee has history of scheduling good P5's
Missouri had a history with Kansas (Illinois?)
Vanderbilt has scheduled mid level P5's

You go to 9 conference games and possibly all these games disappear as it becomes that much harder to finish 6-6 or better. If the West had similar histories, I bet this would not even be a discussion. I applaud Auburn for the Penn State series, wish Alabama would start it up again. Historically LSU had Tulane and they were good, but at least a decade ago they were scheduling good non conference. Auburn also plays Clemson a lot so respect there.

Arkansas has both TX schools in the future so 9 makes sense to them

tLandmass has history at the bottom so they have not scheduled long term OOC rivals.

TAMU needs to beat an App State before talking about 9 conference games

UTx could schedule kansas
OU could make OK Lite a rival game (and UNL as a back 2nd)

We're playing Miami/UCF/FSU in 2024. And cancelling the UCF game now would make for terrible optics.

Do away with rivalries and do full rotation. I'd love to see Bama not play Auburn every year.

There are gonna be 12 teams in the playoffs so your regular season isn't that big of a deal so I think even moreso the non conference rivalries will be kept especially if they stay at 8 conference games. You might as well fill the spots with your old rival. So what if OU lost to okie St? i think that was an issue with some teams in the past. Look how many times Bowden derailed the Gators seasons. Now it doesn't matter. Just be in the top 12 (remember its highest ranked conference champs for auto bids) which isn't that difficult. A couple or even 3 losses and you're still in.

Lame AF. It's a shame that SEC expanded.

That is your opinion but Iron Bowl has national appeal and is worth a lot of $$

In the SEC a ranked UK traveling to a ranked Ole Miss will get eyeballs but not at the national level, why they will show unranked LSU / Auburn game instead.

Texas A&M has done very well in the SEC with a 9 conference game schedule. In 2020, A&M went 8-1.

The SEC has plenty of easy wins. Your team just happens to be one of them

You could preserve your rivalry with Texas Tech by staying in the Big 12.

Auburn rides Bamas coat tails. Barn has everything to gain and Bama has everything to lose. Doing Barn a huge favor by playing them every year.

In the history of college football, only one team with 9 regular season conference games has ever won a national championship. And that 9 game schedule only happened because it was a COVID year.
