And that gets us to overtime.

I'm 37. Unfortunately, I was born into this. I'm also an alumnus. So, I'm doubly bound.

right, which is preferable to losing in regulation wouldn't you agree?

Lol. I suppose. But at that point, we were done. We couldn't stop them at all on the last two drives.
The real point that needs to be made here is that for the past TWO YEARS Sc has had a walk on a kicker. Both guys cost us games. We need to pull a clutch kicker out of the portal this year.,

You never know what may happen.
Just push him OB and line up and play.
Bad snap, bad protection, fumble on the next play.
All low likelihood, but make them make the play to beat you.
In 1970 or so Florida laid down against Miami so they’d score and Reeves would set a passing record before time ran out.
I guess I’m ok with USC decision, but I would not do it. The Florida example, I can’t endorse.

let Bama run the time down to nothing & attempt a 20 something yard FG.
Would've been more like a 35-40 yard field goal from where the South Carolina guy let Bernard go. I've seen Talty shank a field goal by a good 45 feet before. Or it could've been a bad snap or been blocked.
And then South Carolina's offense isn't exactly 2019 LSU. Go the length of the field with 34 seconds and no timeouts was never going to happen.

The Bama-SC game last year had a similar situation. We were up by 2 (I think), with ~2 minutes left. We broke a long TD pass. So now we're up by 9.
We're good, right?
Wrong, SC scored a quick TD and then, with ~1 minute left, recovered an onside kick. Bama had to make a last minute INT to win the game.
Afterwards, people mentioned that if the WR had just taken a knee inside the 5, we could have run out the clock.
This year, though, the situation was just different enough that the same logic doesnt quite work. We could have stopped at the three, run the clock down, and tried for a game winning FG. But our kicker had already missed one FG that day. And given that the OL had been shaky all game, there was a higher than average chance of a block. So there was no valid reason for us NOT to score the TD.
SC, however, was out of timeouts, and there was under a minute left. Letting us score was a bad percentage move.

We knew they weren't going to pass we should have blitzed everyone and given them a loss to push the fg attempt back. Their kicker is as bad as ours

I'd have tried my luck with the kicker shanking it and going to OT but I am not going to shite on his decision

I hated it. Yes you might not get the ball back but I’ll take my chances with a college kicker and call my best block the kick play vs driving the field vs Alabama just to tie with no timeouts and what, 30-40 seconds? Plus you know your offense isn’t exactly the best in the conference.
Neither one is likely but I think Bama missing the kick, you blocking, or a fumble, bad snap, etc is more likely…

As an Alabama fan, I was thrilled that he let GB score. Our kicker is a liability, and South Carolina had no timeouts and 30 seconds to go the length of the football field.
It felt like an NFL analytics decision. But this isn't the NFL. A kick was far from a sure thing, and the South Carolina offense isn't quite as effective as the Chiefs.

What was bad was Jesse Palmer completely whiffed on the commentary. Instead of having the discussion we're having in this thread, he implied that Germie Bernard was stupid for not stepping out at the 10 yard line which would have been completely insane. You either score the TD or you step out at the 1 yard line.
Jesse said the game would have been over if he stepped out at the 10 almost like he didn't even know what the score was.

When was the last time letting a team score worked out?
Can't get the full clip because the NFL blocks it but Detroit goes on to win

In the NFL where kicks less than 25 yards are essentially automatic, letting the team score is probably the best decision. But I’ve seen too many blocked kicks and shanked field goals in the college game. And SC has some athletic freaks that they can put in for potential block. You make them kick it.

Either way fans will be mad.

I wish there wad a video link because it didn't look like they "let him score" to me, but maybe I missed it.

I think they said he is perfect on the season inside of 40 yards. It was going to be like a 30 yard field goal.

I get it but our kicker is arse and they definitely should’ve made us kick it
People in this thread are saying this, but our kicker has been perfect within 40 yards, and extra points.
Having said that, he looked nervous as hell, and in a rowdy atmosphere like that, with all that pressure, I would have rather had him attempt the kick than give up a touchdown if I am a Gamecock fan.
