I'm a female. Joey Freshwater would absolutely be my choice between the two and that opinion has nothing to do with coaching skills.

Did you forget RichRod turned you down first before you hired Saban? Spurrier was contacted as well during that search and declined. The Bama HC job is not something most coaches will take on if they are already a HC making multi-millions at current job.

My guess is Bama will likely hire from within and promote a coordinator. Might want to start grooming someone.

In the first place you don’t know the full story on rich rod to Bama
Bama had been thru a rough period.
When the time comes we will get the best man for the job.

Just a tad bit of difference in the shape of the program in 2007 compared to when Saban will retire, and Saban was already a head coach in the NFL making millions when he took the Bama job

I'm a diehard Bama fan but I don't get this...there have been many times since the Bear that we didn't "get whoever we want" or we screwed it up...it's not like we've not botched football hires before...

Bobby Bowden, Frank Beamer, Mike Riley, Butch Davis, Spurrier, and RichRod were all coaches that ultimately turned us down since the Bear Bryant days...

In a Bowden interview, he mentioned the best thing he ever did was not take the Bama job...said he'd have been following a legend and that's hard to live up to...also mentioned how hard it'll be to follow Nick Saban...

I might be mistaken, but I am pretty sure Bowden has never been offered the Bama job. I know he was considered in the 80's when they ultimately offered Bill Curry, but I didn't think he was ever offered the job

Was he offered the job before Stallings was hired?

Yeah I had thought the same thing...I recall reading that he wanted the job before we hired Curry...and we botched it and hired Curry instead. I do remember Bowden say he was interested but would not interview...and then when he met with Bama, he thought they'd be talking terms, then he realized he was being interviewed and I think it irked him...so maybe he called it off. Things didn't leak in the press back then as much as they do now...

The interview was from SI and was done early last year...the way he talked, he mentioned not wanting to follow the Bear so maybe he meant earlier...

You completely missed my point. It’s because of the pressure at Bama that many coaches don’t want the job and there is nowhere to go but down after Saban retires. The expectation at Bama now is there can be no more than one loss in a season and the team must play for a NC, anything less is failure.

The job is immensely less desirable now to any HC doing well at another school. Bama is only going to want to hire the best and the best HC’s will already be making many millions at their current job. What HC making a ton of money wants to leave his current job to take on the job of maintaining perfection? The odds of failure far outweigh the odds of success if perfection is the minimum.

Bama spent a lot of time “wandering in the wilderness” before Saban and then caught lightning in a bottle with Saban......almost pure luck the hire got made. Remember, RichRod was the first choice.

Bama will always be good but Bama AS (after Saban) will likely be a lot of meh seasons for Bama fans.....that’s just the facts of the history since Bear.

While I agree that luck was involved with hiring Saban, Rich Rod was not our first choice, Saban was. He turned us down and we moved on...I can't recall exactly but I know we offered Spurrier as well, can't remember if it was before or after RichRod, but I think it was before...he was either our second or third choice...

Any way, we offered Rodriguez and it appeared he agreed verbally and then he changed his mind. From what I read, Spurrier advised Mal Moore that he should talk with Saban again...the ole ball coach said that, based on his own experience in the NFL, that Saban probably wanted to return to the college game...Moore did and it worked out well for us...

Hope he’s as Frantastic as the last coach from TCU. Those bastards deserve it for the AIDS he gave our program.
