If you go just from his press conferences and his demeanor on the sidelines during games, you'd probably be right...from what I've read, he's different off the field and most players really love the guy...also read an article around Christmas last year that showed another side to the man:

As for Dabo following Saban at Bama, I think he'd be Bama's first choice (and mine as well)...while I think he'd listen, I tend to think he'd probably stay at Clemson as he's set for life there...

There was serious discussion about firing him when we went on the 5 game winning streak against them. They did not like Dabo during that period. Had we won that 6th game, I'm pretty sure they'd have kicked his arse to the curb.

Yeah, I'd say you're right...

But since he has three straight play-off appearances now, along with a national championship, he can do no wrong there...I read an article a while back talking how the '81 Clemson team members and coaching staff were treated like living legends whenever they came back to visit...I'd say Dabo has surpassed that now and I think he can probably stay for as long as he likes...

Whomever follows Saban will have their hands full. When Gene Stallings was coaching at Bama, he won a national title and averaged 10 wins a season...and, from what little I understand, seems he was pretty much forced out. And this was way after Bear and way before Saban...after the Saban era, expectations will be unreasonable and nobody will be able to live up to them. If I was Dabo, I wouldn't want to follow Saban...but I might be interested in following the man who followed Saban...

I agree, he would not want to replace Saban, but it is his alma mater.

Bama will throw $$ at the best coaches available. The list would go something like this:

Top Flight
Urban Meyer
James Franklin (Best candidate)
Dabo Sweeny
Jimbo Fisher
Gary Patterson
James Peterson
Kirby Smart (Alma Mater)
Licoln Riley

Probably Not
Chip Kelly
David Shaw
Lane Kiffin (
Mark Richt (Alma Mater)

Just for shits and giggles here's the urban dictionary's definition of Dabo:

quote:

dabo

can replace "frick, damn, shite, a-hole, etc." Most versatile word in the english language. can be used as a positive or negative expression. considered one of the most successful words in history. enjoy entering the dabo state of mind.

"What the dabo are you talking about?"

"I would like to dabo you

I personally favor the a-hole definition.

Damn that's a good read.

Tell us more about the culture. When do the players who home invaded their teammate's apartment and put a gun in his girlfriend's face go on trial?

There are many, many coaches out there that would be better options for Bama than Jimbo fricking Fisher it’s hilarious that you think he’s a top 2 coach. But then again y’all thought Sumlin was going to be elite until he crashed and burned

I don’t understand why you wouldn’t want to be the coach to follow Saban. He is going to leave you with tons of talent. I think it’s quite the opposite. I think it’s an advantage to follow Saban because of the foundation he has built at Bama and the talent he will leave behind.

Larry Coker won national titles with less talent after following Jimmy Johnson.

Jimbo Fisher won a national title after following Bobby Bowden.

Les Miles won a national title after following Saban himself.

I’m sure there are more examples but I would love to be the coach that got to follow Saban.

The HS players with NFL aspirations aren’t necessarily looking for the nice guy easy to play for coach (sometimes known as a “players coach”). They value competence above all else. That’s what they respect. A lot of them want the win at all costs guy because they identify with that guy.

Also Saban is probably a lot more likable than what the causal fan sees via his media interactions. His players seem to have that perfect balance of friendship and respect that you want in player/coach relationship.

If the BOT at the U of A is smart they will do whatever it takes to hire Dabo once The Nick hangs up his cleats.

They shet the bed in 87 and hired a sales manager over a real football coach. We'll see.

Dabo was an insurance salesman before the tater's hired him. He might tank there, too.

This guy is one of the most clueless posters on this board, in any event, and it's real easy to find examples, so whatever he thinks, I'd generally bet against it.

We'd throw mega $$$ at him. Muschamp is a loyal fella anyway and he won't soon forget that SC embraced him and gave him another shot at being a HC in the SEC.

And did you just call Dabo smart? Holy frick.

Edited bc I can't read today.

But the Tard does have a ring, and is a constant in the playoffs. The other, well, he is the coach at Carolina.

Carolina was good enough to whip that Bama arse the last time we played. May not have been Champ at the helm, but it was still Carolina.
