104.5 at noon quoted an article in the Orlando paper, in which 2 members of the Capital One's search committee said that they were "forced" by the SEC to take Ga. over A&M, in order to protect the 2nd place team in the league. As well, the league tossed the Cotton Bowl a cookie as they desperately wanted A&M & JM's Heisman trophy. ( after giving the Sugar Bowl the Big 12/SEC championship game )According to the talking heads on 104.5, the Aggies were as disappointed in being forced to go to Dallas, wanting to shed its Texas image & get exposure in Fla, as LSU was in getting relegated to the Chicken Bowl. Point being that the league office definitely uses its power to influence decisions & it's doubtful that this only happens with bowls. i.e. ..............

This is old news. It was obvious to everyone that this happened there was really no other explanation.

We missed out on a lot better matchups, but oh well.

But don't listen to Captial One bowl reps, its clearly just LSU "whining"

We called our pro-Alabama executives in the SEC office and told them to take a break from training referees to ignore Bama's holding, and strong arm some bowl officials to screw LSU.

I figured this was obvious...

The most troubling part is that the SEC would actually lobby for some SEC schools over other SEC schools.

Idk if its true or not, but explain to me why the SEC would want:

team A in bowl X and team B in bowl Y

instead of

team A in bowl Y and team B in bowl X?

They didn't want the loser of the SEC Championship game to fall too far. It would look bad for Florida to get a dramatically better bowl than Georgia by not going to Atlanta.

Yeah...I kind of felt bad for Georgia because, by sending Florida to the Sugar Bowl, they effectively punished the loser of the SEC Championship Game for winning their division.

They need to be consistent:

'92 Gators go to Gator bowl.
'93 Tide goes to Gator Bowl
'94 Tide goes to Citrus Bowl
'95 Arky goes to Carquest Bowl
'96 Tide goes to Outback Bowl
'97 Auburn goes to Peach Bowl
'98 State goes to Cotton Bowl
'99 Gators go to Citrus Bowl
'00 Aubbies go to Citrus Bowl
'01 Vols go to Citrus Bowl
'02 Arky goes to Music City Bowl
'03 Dogs go to Citrus Bowl
'04 Vols go to Cotton Bowl
'05 Tigers go to Peach Bowl
'06 Arky goes to Citrus Bowl
[changes to BCS format frees Sugar Bowl from BCSCG]
'07 Vols go to Outback Bowl
'08 Tide to Sugar
'09 Gators to Sugar
'10 USC to Peach
'11 Dogs to Outback
'12 Dogs to Citrus

Sometimes the loser of the SECCG goes to the Citrus Bowl, some times they drop to the Peach, sometimes further... But sometimes they go to the Sugar Bowl.

There's a reason that there is not a simple formula for placing SEC teams into bowl games like most other conferences have...

Damnit, Slive and Co need to get the SEC better spots in MCBB and WCBB then so we can get more press come tourney time. Tired of the ACC eating up all the basketball ink.

In a post about the SEC favoring UGA over A&M, you are the 3rd Alabama fan to frame this as an LSU/Alabama issue.

I have no problem with the SEC pushing the Cap1 Bowl to take the loser of the SECCG, but they need to be consistent.

Yea after LSU got screwed into the Peach Bowl after getting dominated by UGA in the 2005 SECCG, the SEC tried to make sure after that that the SECCG loser (notably a highly ranked one like UGA this year) didn't fall too far in the bowl selection process.

Funny how it's mostly LSU fans complaining about this. I think y'all would be singing a different tune if the roles were reversed.

And yes, I know that LSU got screwed before, but does that mean that the problem shouldn't be fixed. The SEC Championship loser shouldn't be punished for winning their division as a highly ranked team and then losing a close SEC Championship. LSU got blown out by UGA that year. The perception is different this time around.
