They didn't want the loser of the SEC Championship game to fall too far. It would look bad for Florida to get a dramatically better bowl than Georgia by not going to Atlanta.

Still came up with pretty much this result...Sugar "dramatically better" than Cap 1...

The SEC Championship loser shouldn't be punished for winning their division as a highly ranked team and then losing a close SEC Championship. LSU got blown out by UGA that year. The perception is different this time around.

Agreed...Georgia should have gone to the Sugar

Funny how it's mostly LSU fans complaining about this. I think y'all would be singing a different tune if the roles were reversed.

And yes, I know that LSU got screwed before, but does that mean that the problem shouldn't be fixed. The SEC Championship loser shouldn't be punished for winning their division as a highly ranked team and then losing a close SEC Championship.

I don't know where you're seeing this. Most of us think Georgia should be in the Cap1 Bowl.

Most of us also think LSU should have been in the Cap1 Bowl in '05.

Doesn't matter.

'94 Alabama deserved a better bowl than the one they got considering they came into the SECCG 11-0 and lost by only a single point.

'08 Alabama rightfully got into the Sugar Bowl due to the fact they came into the SECCG with a 12-0 record and lost the game in the 4th quarter.

'09 Florida is basically what I said above.

'12 Georgia was ranked #3 and played #2 Alabama down to the wire. They should be going to the Sugar Bowl.

The others that I didn't highlight should be clear for obvious reasons. '05 LSU got blown the hell out by an inferior Georgia team. They did not deserve a BCS bowl after that schalacking.

And neither did 2001 Tennessee. They got beat by 11 points to a team that finished 5-3 in conference.

Nobody says that.

The Cap1 bowl should be a lock for whoever loses in Atlanta.

Uhhhh The Gators lost to the girls school in the last game of the season in 92 & 98...so we didnt have a great W/L record and actually in 1992 we lost our fourth game in the SECCG (sorry Bama but 1992 we were not a juggernaut)...we didnt deserve much better than Gator Bowl.

Florida was rebuilding in 1992. The only reason they were in the game is because they upset a superior Georgia team.

Wow....Georgia.

Meh, the SEC should do it like everyone else; spell out in advance what the bowl selection process is and base it on final conference/division standings.

Until they do that, they leave themselves open to the criticism of favoritism.

Agreed.

The problem from LSU's perspective is that SEC administration was busy looking out for the interests of Texas A&M, USCe, and UGA, but not LSU. We beat Texas A&M and USCe head-to-head, and finished higher in the BCS, yet both got the higher bowl slots. Slive made LSU sit at the kiddy table this year, .

Add that to the 2012/3 "bridge" schedules, and you got some angry coonasses.

It's the best non-BCS bowl with an SEC tie-in or at least one of the best available for a team from the SEC East. It's not like they're going to the CFA Bowl.

The most troubling part is that the SEC would actually lobby for some SEC schools over other SEC schools.

Bowls are not about achievement in the league's eyes. They are about making money. They will do what they dam well please beyond the NC picture.

The winner in this is actually is the Chick Fil A Bowl. They got a much better matchup than they usually do and they got a pretty good night for TV ratings. Eat Mor Chik'n

LSU has got to start muscling up the politics some if they want to get to the adult table. Mark Emmert (former LSU System Pres and current Pres of NCAA) where are you? He would be a good one to rattle Slive's cage a little...

Idk if its true or not, but explain to me why the SEC would want:

team A in bowl X and team B in bowl Y

instead of

team A in bowl Y and team B in bowl X?

Because in THIS year's BCS rankings, Team W was poised to get a better bowl bid than Team X, who was a Division Champ and who held a victory over team W. Reppin' the division had to mean SOMETHING.

We need a wartime AD in today's SEC.

Spot on.

Also, tired of hearing UGA whine about, "but we played Bama close". A&M beat Bama, LSU held the lead on Bama with 55 seconds left. Quit looking for a moral victory, you lost. Just be thankful for the unequal schedule that put you in Atlanta. If you swapped Florida and UGA's schedules, UF is in Atlanta.
