quote:
An endowment is a financial asset, in the form of a donation made to a non-profit group, institution or individual consisting of investment funds or other property that may or may not have a stated purpose at the bequest of the donor. Most endowments are designed to keep the principal amount intact while using the investment income from dividends for charitable efforts.
quote:
Endowments represent money or other financial assets that are donated to universities or colleges. The sole intention of the endowment is to invest it, so that the total asset value will yield an inflation-adjusted principal amount, along with additional income for further investments and supplementary expenditures. Typically, endowment funds follow a fairly strict policy allocation, which is a set of long-term guidelines that dictates the asset allocation that will yield the targeted return requirement without taking on too much risk.

All that money and A&M still can't buy a 10 win season.

The LSU Foundation is in the works of launching a fundraising campaign to raise ours to atleast 1.2 billion.

If you divide the endowment of Texas A&M's entire system by the 11 schools in that system, it's not as impressive.

Yea, but it's not evenly split. A&M's alone is still bigger than Vanderbilt's.

Someone posted on here last year that aTm was fixing to get filthy rich because of a huge oil and gas find on lands owned by aTm. You recall anything of that nature?

This is part of the problem why higher education has become so expensive. They can justify raising tuition prices to astronomical levels because their endowments can help offset those increases with need and merit-based scholarships.
But a large portion of the student population isn't receiving that money. So they have to take out more student loans, and are graduating with more debt.
Again, it's only part of the problem. But a factor none-the-less.

Hate to break it to you bud, but when I was there in '07 they were doing the same thing, but to raise it to 1B. It is going to be much harder now that tuition is has rose by the max amount every year and tops has been slashed. less money out there for people to donate.

quote:Why don't y'all just set the goal at $1 billion, reach that and then bump it to $1.2? Kinda odd to set the goal at 1.2 when you are currently less than $800mm.

This is proof our education system is fricked.
There are a lot of people that could benefit from that amount of money being spread around to create jobs.
Our educational systems from kinder through grad schools horde way too much cash.

That money is out there invested in various parts of the country and raises money for the school.
