AU just completed a $1B campaign, so using the word endowment is misleading

Misleading to idiots, maybe. Endowments and yearly contribution revenue are 2 very different things.

Also, this is measuring endowments. Literal endowments. So I'm not sure how using the "word endowment" is misleading when we are discussing......endowments.

Misleading to idiots who do not understand that money given to individual Departments (ie Engineering), do not count toward the general endowment funds. Each school handles their gift giving differently.

This thread isn't about general giving. You are more than welcome to start a thread about general giving that helps you paint Auburn in some sort of superior light (which is silly, because Auburn has a reasonable and solid endowment for a school it's size).

This is about overall endowments - which is a general measure of a schools overall stockpile of funds and giving, as it is cumulative and not subject to yearly fluctuations due to "campaigns".

quote:

Each school handles their gift giving differently.

Schools don't get to decide what are and aren't endowments, except for board-restricted endowments which are recorded separately. Donors do.

Endowments are the most important long term investment a college has because it generates income yearly. It is literally the gift that keeps on giving. That is why it is generally used as one of the main metrics for measuring a school's non-government financial standing. It is always why almost all schools, short of an immediate need or campaign, beg large donors to make their gift an endowment if they do not have a specific "build/spend now" purpose.

Do we really need to discuss the same topic in multiple threads?

This isn't the topic you copied moron. That was the "WHERE SEC ALUMS LIVE" thread.

Try to keep up with yourself.

I'd like to know how much UAB gets from the Alabama System. You'd think a world class medical school would be worth more than an average state school

That'd be interesting to know but doesn't have anything to do with endowments.

There seems to be a disconnect with some of the Auburn alumni in this thread relative to this topic.

I don't know why, it's not like Auburn's endowment is embarrassing or something.

Keltic is taking his "CAMERON TO BAMA I SWEAR" thread and trying to mask it as another thread or something.
