Why does the Univ of Texas manage aTm aggies endowment?

Maybe because maybe they are still technically part of the UT system?

lester, you are the biggest dip shite on this board. Everyone knows you are a sock for texashorn. We get it. You are so jealous of the fact that TAMU is in the SEC, and tu isn't. Get over it.

But go ahead and spin your false narriatives that tu "controls" A&M, and that A&M is subservient to tu, or that A&M is "part" of tu. It's ok if you believe those things. Some people believe in flying pigs as well.

The truth is that the PUF has been managed collectively for eons, for the good of the state. I'm sure they are doing a fine job.

Since there's some disagreement about the reported endowment figures as a measure of the "health of a NFP," we might look at some other metrics (like research expenditures) to determine the health of a university whose mission includes research. Now, it's true that universities have multi-pronged missions, which include both research AND teaching (and service sometimes). The endowments give us one lens to look through. Research expenditures offer another lens: NSF R&D Expenditures

I went ahead (because I was procrastinating on some other stuff) and crunched some numbers like I did with enrollment and endowment. I have included two tables with enrollment and research expenditures. One table includes systems. But I don't think that table is as useful because it ignores that large swaths of students at some campuses are at universities whose major function is teaching, not research.

So, the second table is the one I would look at, which focuses on research expenditures and enrollments on MAIN campuses only. The second table put Texas A&M much higher because the other campuses (which serve large numbers of students) don't generate the same amount of research.

I also laid the the research expenditures that I used to calculate for the system totals since the NSF data didn't (from what I could tell) combine numbers for systems. This is useful in showing how much the research money for the Alabama system is weighted toward UAB and UAH.

From what I remember, medical research funding (via NIH) is a pretty big number. So, keep that in mind.

The ranked list of expenditures (not divided out by enrollment) is below.
1. Texas A&M $866,678,000
2. Florida $739,522,000
3. Vanderbilt $647,816,000

4. Georgia $374,264,000
5. Kentucky $331,705,000
6. LSU $281,154,000
7. Missouri $246,684,000
8. Mississippi State $226,359,000
9. South Carolina $208,736,000
10. Tennessee $173,533,000
11. Auburn $135,899,000
12. Arkansas $133,660,000
13. Ole Miss $94,040,000

14. Alabama $58,234,000 (The gap between football and research... )

If you see any mistakes, let me know.

Per school, Vandy is the largest, but we're still a blip compared to many of the Ivies. It's a private school no-political-pressure thing. The public schools have to contend with the state governments even when their donors are generous.

As I suggested in my previous post, public schools don't have full control of their own finances. TAMU and Texas might be rivals in sports, but they're both ultimately accountable to the same Powers That Be on the academic/financial side...which is the side that really matters.

OUCH, 7 of the 9 board members that control the oil money investments are directly related to The University of Texas, by rule, including that Billy Badass UT Chancellor, aka William McRaven

aTm aggies cant be trusted to handle their endowment, and would have no endowment had not the aggies long ago petitioned the Texas Government that aTm was a branch of UT

Thats a FACT!

is there another SEC school not trusted to manage their endowment?

all aTm does is embarrass

I don't have a clue about the management or finances of your school, other than I believe you have a big endowment.

Guess I never really cared to look it up.

Congrats on knowing so much about a&m's, though.

Also, speaking of embarrassments to the State of Texas, is this you in the photo?

It will take a generation or two dying as well as the end of the mindset of "you're a bad aggie if you don't fall lockstep in line with the coaching staff" to change that.
