If you divide the endowment of Texas A&M's entire system by the 11 schools in that system, it's not as impressive.

Except it is not even remotely evenly split whatsoever. The A&M system spending/fund allocation is like 90% Main Campus (which includes Galveston and Qatar) and 10% divided between the other schools. There's actually quite a bit of discussion/argument going on in the state to the theme that both A&M and UT should be/should have been building up their system schools the way that the University of California and Cal State systems have - where there are multiple highly ranked public schools instead of just two as it is in Texas - but absent a legal mandate to do so, they haven't/won't.

Yeah I'm not sure why anyone would think that A&M Corpus Christi or A&M Commerce gets the same amount as College Station.

The distinction here is key

When it comes to A&M it's a distinction without a difference.

If you are talking about the University of California system, then yeah, the system-wide endowment really is split between the system schools. The A&M "system" is Main Campus with all the money and then a bunch of shitty little schools with nothing. You won't hear us bragging about how badass the "system" is. The "system" schools consist of a few buildings on an island below Corpus, some leased office space in Killeen, and some barns in various small towns.

UAB - $424.5M
UAH - $70M

I really would have thought UAB would have been more with the med school.

Auburn - $646.6M

AUM - $24M

I do know Auburn is wrapping up a $1B giving campaign that I believe a portion was going to the endowment.

That's not how it works.

The "system" schools have their own endowments, and are basically autonomous schools overseen by the Board of Regents and the system Chancelor. They each have their own President and fund raising mechanism. Each of the system schools has their own mission, academic standards, and areas of research. A student wishing to transfer from a "system" school to TAMU would have to apply for admission and meet academic requirements, just like any other student.

The Land Grant, Sea Grant, and Space Grant programs are part of the main campus, as are the medical school, the veterinary college, and the new law school.

In other words, just because a school is part of the A&M "system", it is really just in the system from a state funding perspective, and doesn't really share in much of our endowment.

AU just completed a $1B campaign, so using the word endowment is misleading.

I expect the Arkansas endowment to slowly creep up as NW Arkansas continues to grow. Still nearly 900 million is nothing to sneer at.

If you do that, you don't accurately divide it.

The College Station campus gets almost (if not more than) half of that, Galveston about a quarter.

Also, if you throw in our medical school endowment (which we don't include because it is "System"), we are in the "Billion club".

UA-Little Rock has an endowment of something like $130 million. If we counted "System" numbers we'd be about the same as Alabama in this ranking. We've always reported everything, enrollment, etc only as "University of Arkansas at Fayetteville".

The number quoted is the total of all the schools. The previous posters doesnt state to equally divide among the schools but the number is disproportionately divided among each school

That is correct. However TAMU is a rather large majority of that. (I don't know the percentage, but I wouldn't be surprised if I it is close to 80-90%). The A&M system schools just don't have much in the way of endowment money.

About 9.5 billion of that is earmarked for A&M's main campus. So, even when divided, we're still way richer than the rest of you pathetic wretches.

Would be $781.8m + a shiny new C note if they had not have given me all those parking tickets as an undergrad. Plus Aleeva.
