I find it hard to believe how many AU and Bama fans forget about LSU winning the SECCG in 2011

I think for the few who forgot, they merged an old stat with the SECCG stat.

Although the game ended up not even counting, right

I don't think it's too far fetched to believe that a rematch of a permanent crossover rivalry hasn't happened yet. That loss in the regular season puts a team at a big disadvantage to get to the SECCG considering its typically a strong conference.

That's true... but rematches have happened many times:

1999: Alabama vs. Florida
2000: Auburn vs. Florida
2001: LSU vs. Tennessee
2003: LSU vs. Georgia
2004: Auburn vs. Tennessee
2010: Auburn vs. South Carolina

Sure, statistically, having played in the regular season does make it less likely for the team that loses to get to Atlanta. But 20% of the SEC Championship Games to date have been rematches... so it doesn't seem to be that big of a detriment.

Really shows how good VOLS used to be. Why can't we be good again?

How long has it been since a team out side of the state of Alabama won the SEC?

2008 - Florida.

Almost 10 years.

Wow, the state of delusion Bammers and Barners live in!

At least FSU hasn't either.

But there are two parts of that statistical disadvantage, one of which only applies to permanent crossover opponents. Not only does the losing team suffer a loss in the standings because of having to play the other division's champion, but because it was their permanent crossover rival, it's likely the other division contenders DIDN'T have to play them. If you play the other division champ as a rotational opponent, at least their permanent opponent (who is generally another big six team competing for your division title) also has to play them.

I know what you meant... the SWC conference. We joined the SWC in 1915.

We actually lost our first great coach because we were not in a conference. Hugo Bezdek had an undefeated season for the Razorbacks where we beat the powerhouses in the area (LSU, Oklahoma, St. Louis) and we were crowned the champions of the South and Southwest. Weirdly enough he ran an early version of the hurry up offense to do it too.

But Bezdek was concerned that since we did not play in a conference we were at a disadvantage because other teams could hire players as ringers and we needed to be in a conference that regulated play.

Sure enough the year after he left for Oregon Arkansas had the infamous Quachita Baptist game where boosters from Quachita basically hired the starting QB for Arkansas who transferred immediately and brought the team play books with him.

A couple of years later we were charter members of the SWC.

LSU has played football against Arkansas more times in their history than they have played Auburn, Kentucky Georgia, Tennessee or Vanderbilt.

Ole Miss has played football against Arkansas more times in their history than they have played Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Auburn or Florida.

The old SEC scheduling set-up before the 12-team SEC was strange.

There are three teams that Bear Bryant teams played but never beat: Notre Dame, Texas, and Alabama

Vandy has only been to 8 bowl games ever

Other than being wrong, it is like Al Attles saying "Al Attles and Wilt Chamberlain once combined for 117 points in an NBA game."
