Seriously…what’s a team supposed to do in that situation? So basically, the runner scores on 100% of attempts in that situation. Ridiculous

They just can’t admit they were wrong. That’s the SEC for you.

Perfect post. SEC Umps are like the Louisville Police after arresting Scottie Schefler for not immediately stopping on command at the golf course parking lot.

Also, baseball rule 6.02 (b) says it’s strike 3 before the play even happens because a batter is not allow to leave the box while a pitch is being thrown.

The worst part was commentators and phoned-in ump trying to sell the terrible call as if it were correct.

It was pure incompetency…they knew it was a none reviewable play, the home plate ump was right on top of the play and made the call…it should have ended there since they could not review it and none of the other umps were in position to make that judgement…

Baseball umpires being shite

Our idiot runner tried to steal home, was easily thrown out. Catcher was called for “interference” and a balk was called instead. Run scored, inning continued for an extra batter with South Carolina now leading 11-10.

LSU walks it off with a 2 run bomb after all was said and done

You almost need to go on YouTube but it was a play where the USC coach banked on the ump screwing up on a home plate steal and they dud. What's weird is that the ump initially made a call and inning was over. Then the call was changed despite the play being non-reviewable. The SEC head ump called and basically said the field umps were notified about the initial call. They changed their initial call of a nonreviewable play. There 100% was a undisclosed 3rd party to this that the head ump was trying to gloss over. Luckily it didn't matter.

The commentators mostly were saying the umps got it wrong.

Nahh, the runner banked on LSU falling asleep. The hitter was the most shocked player on the field, so it wasn't a called play or he missed a sign.

They missed the call and it's not reviewable and he never touched home but that didn't count because he was ruled out but he's not really out because they missed the call. frick it. Homerun

Yeah, I’m not mad at USC. It’s a shame such a good conference has such incompetent officials.

Did you literally have a stroke during the press conference before he totally said that he was hoping for that exact call

I guess I am missing where they were wrong. The catcher can’t catch a ball on home plate thrown by the pitcher who is on the rubber.

By LSU fans account of the steal here the batter should be able to swing and hit the catcher since it certainly counts as a ball or strike at home.

Right or wrong? Granted I did not know about the rule an hour ago

It may be a shitty rule. But based on the rule, it was the correct call. It was a live pitch and the catcher caught it before it got to the plate, thus completely interfering with the batter’s ability to swing at it.

The moral of the story is that coaches need to teach their players to intentionally swing and hit the catcher if he gets out over the plate as the pitch is on the way. That will leave no room for interpretation whether it was catcher’s interference or not.
