It truly amazes me that Ole Miss and Missouri are playing at an elite level while Florida, Tennessee, and Auburn can’t reclaim their previous level of success
Last two seasons:
Elite Teams:
Missouri 16-9 (definitely elite)
Ole Miss 19-7 (definitely elite_
Not Elite Teams:
Tennessee 20-6 (not able to achieve success)
Got it! Thread checks out.

Last 3 years:
Ole Miss: 29-10 (2 NY6 Bowls)
Tennessee: 27-12 (1 NY6 Bowl)
Tennessee has an overall losing record since Fulmer left 15 years ago. You had one good season last year. Relax.

I'm quite relaxed, looking forward to playing that elite Ole Miss squad in the future.

Auburn’s level of success under Gus Malzahn would make Ole Miss and Missouri absolutely giddy.
In his first 7 seasons, he had an SEC Title, two SEC West Titles, a national title game appearance, and a 3-4 record over Bama which was better than any other program during that time period.
Eventually though, the Auburn powerbrokers (and a majority of fans BTW) got tired of the inconsistency and they pulled the trigger to get rid of him. They hired Harsin which was an absolute disaster and unfortunately will take 5-7 years or so to overcome.
It’s all about coaching hires. A bad hire sets you back.

Arkansas,
Correct. Those that have the real money don't care if the teams win or lose as long as the coach is there to kiss their arse.

I understand. Have you ever seen Columbia, SC?

Either that or they don't have a clue on what kind of expectations they desire.

The real problem is the AD and the rest of the administration.
They have been botching hires since Petrino left.
They have no idea what they are doing ever since Frank retired.

At least y'all had the balls to go out and steal a HC from a similar program (even though it didn't work out). I can guarantee Napier's replacement will be another "young up and coming" G5 coach.

I wouldn't say Arkansas stole Bert from Wisconsin. He wanted to get out of Madison and Arkansas just happened to have a vacancy.
It still wasn't a thorough search though.
I wanted either Chris Petersen or Mike Gundy.

He’s literally the best coach you’ve had in 15 years.

Florida and Auburn have historically had "spotty" success. Florida didn't win the SEC until 1991. Auburn is always up, down. UT is the one that baffles me. They were really good for a hundred years until Fulmer was let go and have never really gotten back.
Now as far as Ole miss and Mizzou, I'm not sure I would call them "elite". Maybe competitive is the word.

All depends on your time frame and your definition of elite. If you turned in a performance as the 8th or 9th best team out of 134 FBS teams that would land you in the top 6% or 7% respectively of the category. So I would submit that for the 2023-2024 season Mizzou and Ole Miss “played” at an elite level, which was the OP’s assertion.
Speaking for MIzzou only now…
Now does that make MU an elite “program”? Of course not.
Can Mizzou continue to perform at an elite level? We’ll just have to wait and see.
