And I don't mean it's "not as fun" due to, ie. NIL, transfer portal etc. The quality of football being played is just BAD. Even the best teams in the conference look like absolute arse at times for seemingly no reason.

If you gave any of these cfp teams a schedule of only 2010 SEC teams, what would their record be? Probably 8-5, maybe worse

The SEC has never had as many top 15-20 caliber teams as it has right now.

You’re just conflating a lack of an ultra elite team with a lack of really good to borderline elite teams.

I hear this often. But, go back and put on the tape from even 20 years ago. You'll be surprised by how much faster, more competitive and more athletic the SEC game is right now. The margins are thinner than ever.

There is far more parity in the sport now. Not just a couple of teams consolidating all of the talent.

It’s not worse its parity. Old days are over. Can’t build an empire with NIL.

I think that’s objectively false. The SEC during the Saban era was just top heavy with basically 1-2 juggernauts every year and a bunch of average to below average teams underneath.

Now there’s more top end talent distribution. Maybe no juggernauts as a result, but a lot more good and above average teams.

Bama played 2 SEC Championship games against average Missouri teams, and a couple against Florida with a coach they fired.

It’s just a different era.

A&M simply cannot handle the spotlight. They play tight and not to lose when it is on the line. Not sure how you fix that

We’ve had other periods of mediocre football and I’m not even 40 yet. The SEC has existed outside of 2008-2022.

4 teams if not 5 could be in the final 8. Duh. Parity has caught up and the D's are getting better.

It's not a matter of parity- we had that in 2010 and no one complained. It's a matter of extremely bad, sloppy football being played across the board. That was a conference where the #4 team beat the Big Ten co-champion like an FCS school.

Again when you have a bunch of really competitive teams it leads to contested plays that wouldn’t be contested against lesser competition.

SEC has always used non-conference games to buff up their image. When it was a 10 team conference, you only played 6 conference games. Will be interesting when it goes to 9 next year.

This and I can't for the life of me, understand how people fail to understand how two sides of the same coin don't have a massive effect on each other.

Our defense is handling the spotlight just fine. The 30mph wind gusts are impacting both teams on offense. Miami has 69 total yards at the half and 31 passing. That wind is an issue.

How is faking a punt playing not to lose?

Everyone sees it but the talking heads don't feel comfortable mentioning it publicly else they think it hurts the product they're trying to sell.

Eventually, they'll start publicly griping over it and things will change yet again to pump it back up a bit.

What we're seeing right now is 80's and 90's cfb. It is what it is.

I must be older than the OP. The SEC during most of the 80's and 90's was much worse. We saw multiple seasons where the SEC champ in the Sugar Bowl had 2-3 losses going in, and even the better teams would often get their teeth kicked in by actual national powers.
