The problem with your system from a historical perspective is that you didn't include the NIT. Sure, the NIT is pretty meaningless now. But winning it...even getting to the final four...used to mean a helluva lot prior to 1975, when there were only 25 teams in the NCAA tournament. Until 1953 there were only 16 teams.

You give a team 6 points for making the Sweet 16. What about making the final four of the NIT in 1950 when there were only 8 teams in the NCAA tournament? That was every bit as great an accomplishment.

Absolutely agree - you kind of have to do a pre-1980 point scale and a post-1980 point scale.

I just didn't have time to wade through it.

Wins should count more, IMO. That's a true indicator of staying power and consistency.

SEC wins and losses are ALL that should be considered when ranking all-time programs. This isn't about what a team does in a certain year, but about the entire history of the teams against each other!
It's not rocket science!

I actually held South Carolina in higher esteem than they seemingly deserve. Its always been Auburn, Georgia and Ole Miss as the laughingstock to UK fans. I assume you included their ACC stuff. I think Auburn may have climbed out of that 3rd spot in the basement and Carolina is settling in.

Back 2 Back national champions was a great feeling only a handful of programs know anything about.

I thought both of them were gonna stay there forever and create a dynasty each.

Donovan was at UF for 20 years and took UF from absolutely nothing to elite. He is arguably the greatest coach in UF history in any sport.

LSU got screwed with Knight not getting a technical or being ejected in that 1987 game against Indiana. But Dale did his usual shitty job of coaching against a blue blood. The Tigers had a 12-point lead midway through the second half, and they lost it.

Brown’s record against blue bloods is abysmal. Never beat North Carolina, Indiana or Louisville despite multiple chances to do it in regular season and/or postseason. Also went 0-2 against Duke in back-to-back regular seasons in Shaq’s last 2 years. That ‘81 team was loaded and yes Rudy Macklin getting injured in the regional final hurt. But they had enough to overcome that if they had a decent in-game coach.

This system is much, much better.

I love seeing how much better the SEC is getting in basketball now. So many teams really stepping up! It's an exciting time for us all. Football in-fighting is fun, but in basketball I really root for all of us.
