Were they cheating and paying players before then?
YES !!! Yes they were. Paying players. Building them dorms until that wasn't allowed. Permitting them to run wild in Lexington - which is why Lex Police are so anti-student now.
Yes. Kentucky was paying ball players. They, like Indiana, Louisville, and some others ... just started doing it first. They wanted to win at hoops earlier than most others.
UCLA beat everybody to this.

What about all the players that no longer have the opportunity to go to college because programs are shut down?
Again, universities were founded to provide educations, not provide an opportunity for a football player to make $5 million dollars.
The fact is most college players do not ever receive substantial NiL. The vast majority never turn pro. For most players the opportunity to get a college degree is far more valuable than whatever money they receive from NIL.
If you shut down all these unprofitable programs where do all those players go? How much is it going to cost these players who no longer have a place to play and can’t afford a university degree? Since you are all about economic freedom.

Wasn’t Caleb downs like IN his new apartment in Athens and then just flew to Ohio state?

You are right about this. Most college football fans don't know this, but all Ole Miss fans do. Vaught was a great coach and Bryant was deathly afraid of his teams.
It all started when both Bryant and Vaught weren't even head coaches at either Alabama or Ole Miss yet. Both men were assistant coaches at North Carolina Pre-Flight in the early to mid 1940's and they both knew already that they would be head coaches of Alabama and Ole Miss one day.
Bryant knew right away that Vaught was a better coach than him and told Vaught that he was scared of his natural coaching ability.
Bryant told Vaught that he would contact his alma mater when Vaught became the head coach at Ole Miss and tell Alabama and Frank Thomas and Harold Drew and Ears not to ever play Ole Miss because, whew, he had coached with Vaught at N.C. Pre-Flight and he was the real deal.
Bryant was good on his agreement with Vaught and ended the series from 1944-1963. Bryant wouldn't become Alabama's head coach until 1958. Even so, Bryant would make the call every single year from Maryland, from Kentucky, from Texas A&M and demand that Alabama dare not play Ole Miss because Vaught was just too good.
When Bryant was head coach at Maryland, he was too scared to play Vaught while Vaught was an assistant at Corpus Christi NAS.
When Bryant was at Kentucky, he didn't really run things there and was forced, against his will, to play Vaught. From '47 to '53 Bryant lost 4 times, won 2 and tied once while facing Vaught and the mighty Mississippi. Of course, Bryant beat Vaught in '46 while he as just an assistant at Ole Miss but, does that even count really?
While Bryant ruled as a king at A&M, he stayed far away from Vaught and wouldn't even think about playing Ole Miss from '54-'57.
Eventually, Bryant built up enough courage to play Vaught starting in '64 at Alabama, and beat his arse 5 out of 7 times from '64 to '70 while head coach at Alabama. Byrant finally overcame the one fear he had and the one man he feared in the coaching ranks, Johnny Vaught.

What about them, frankly ?
So you can hit a ball with a stick ? Or jump high ? Or run fast ?
Tell me why you should get a college education ? Why, exactly, is your hit ball with stick or jump high or run fast skill so beneficial to society that we need to pass you on to a college degree ?
At least if you go ROTC its because you owe years to Uncle Sam. Makes sense. If your grades are really good and Company XYZ wants to endow a scholarship its because they intend on hiring your smart arse.
But you hit the ball or jump high or run fast ? Where is the benefit ? Although Georgia should probably start a Race Driving Team.

Saban never had players meeting with agents or tampering. He is a saint beyond reproach.
1) He's a huge hypocrite that only became vocal when the playing field got shifted away from his favor
2) Stinky Pete recklessly tampered with a signed and enrolled player and got caught with his hand in the cookie jar.

Does this break up the little cuddle party that old piss fans and bama fans have been engaged in on this board

How can a person be a huge hypocrite concerning cheating if he never cheated a day in his life at anything?
Nick Saban's record at Alabama after NIL was approved and implemented =
2021 - 13-2
2022 - 11-2
2023 - 12-2
If you think the playing field was shifted out of his favor after NIL and he was putting up #'s like the ones above, you must have thought he was a literal God before NIL.
It seems you thought very highly of Saban and still do. I know he would appreciate The Pirate King's glowing endorsement.

Is this where you say because Saban wasn't handing the bags himself that he wasn't cheating?

How does it feel living a life with such a small penis? I mean, you just scream little dick.

No, this is where I say not a single person, organization, entity, conglomeration, corporation, gathering, group of friends, a relative, a pen-pal or anyone else can ever say that Nick Saban has ever cheated and prove it with any valid information.
Just because The Pirate King done say it be so, and he is being berry serious, isn't a very convincing argument. Frankly, I don't believe you.

Discipline, leadership, motivation, organization, making the most of opportunities; these all transcend the closed system of college sports, and he was excellent at all of them. Easier to do when Player XYZ has no other options
What are you talking about? You asked what Saban has knowledge of outside of coaching. You asked what he could bring to the table outside of football Xs and Os.
But to your “point;” You think discipline, leadership, organization and motivation aren’t applicable to the game today? You believe Cignetti and Smart aren’t using anything they learned from Saban? Or Kiffin for that matter? Or Sarksian, Muschamp, Key, Cristobal et al? This really the leg you want to stand on?
