Bryant has 323 wins all-time vs CNS's 256 which is a difference of 67 wins. Five years means CNS has to average >13.6 (68) wins/year while an average >11.33 (68) wins/year in the next six years will have CNS breaking the mark in year six. Bama has been bouncing between 11 and 13 wins/year for the last 10 years so the sixth year is more likely.

When it comes to losses, Bryant had 85 over his career while CNS's is 65. I know everyone else besides my Bama brethren would like to see Bama lose 20 games over the next six years, but I sure don't see that happening.

What Saban is doing is so much more difficult than what Bryant did. He passed the Bear quite a ways back IMO.

The only question remaining to me is will Saban stay long enough and keep up this pace long enough to surpass Bryant's 232 wins at Alabama. He's at 170 right now.

Do Bama fans consider Bryant or Saban the greatest Tide coach? I would think it is a generational thing.

Much as I hate to think about it, Saban isn't going anywhere any time soon. I can't imagine him leaving just so he can sit on a TV studio and talk about the game. I also don't see him going the Urban Meyer route, claiming his health is in danger any time something starts to make him look bad.

He will retire from Bama only when he is physically unable to do the job, and he's got a long way to go before that happens.

Agreed. I don't think he's anywhere close to retiring.

You think it's going to take until 2026 for Saban to get 67 wins? He's going to get there by 2025 especially if CFB decides to expand the CFB playoff.

Saban is the greatest coach but Coach Bryant will always be more beloved

Saban has already eclipsed Bryant in my opinion. Saban is winning championships at an unbelievable pace and doing it with fewer scholarships than when Bryant coached. To top it off, he’s doing it while competing in the toughest conference in college football.

Saban passed Bryant a while ago in terms of all time who is better. No doubt Bryant is Bama's father. No one will touch him in terms of admiration.

Yes, but could Saban win at Kentucky? The Bear is still UK's all time winningest coach in football. Now winning at LSU and Alabama is nothing compared to the kind of coach it takes to win the Sugar Bowl against Oklahoma in 1950 with Kentucky.

I'm 53 so I'm old enough to remember watching Bryant win his last 2 titles.

People older who remember the others may disagree, but IMO there's no doubt Saban has surpassed him.

Both Saban and Bryant have reinvented themselves during their time at Bama, but it took 4 years of steadily declining results (last 2 being 6 win seasons) before Bryant admitted it was time and did it.

Saban did it coming off an 11-2 Sugar Bowl season. It's that vision for the future and willingness to immediately act on it that sets him apart from not just Bryant but everyone else. He's just a freaking self-adapting machine.

Many fans overlook the role of Terry Saban in all of this. In addition to whatever thought processes we think Saban has, Terry Saban wasn't happy in Miami and in the NFL, she loves college football life and mothering all of those kids, she loves being part of a university community. She loves everything about that life and supports it 1,000%. There's a reason why Mal Moore sat in Saban's home in Miami and talked to Terry for a couple of hours before Saban ever showed up. Saban gets home, and Terry tells him he needs to listen to what Mal had to say, so he did.

The point in time when Saban starts to seriously consider retirement, it will most likely be because Terry Saban suggests it. And there is no person that Saban listens to more than Terry Saban.

Saban is a better coach. Bryants teams could be sloppy at times and Sabans teams don't ever seem sloppy. Bryant had unlimited schollies for most of his career,Saban has 85. I did not respect Bryant, but I do Saban because Bryant was a known cheater, Saban is not near to the level that he was. Nick Saban is the best coach to ever coach college football
