Maybe. That doesn’t make sitting out a bad decision.

This has an easy fix if the schools will implement it.
The recent court ruling said that programs cannot limit educational benefits for players.
Simply create a new type of scholarship, like one for a masters degree or one where a family member can attend and get a free ride, and tie that scholarship to players playing in the bowl game.
Then you sit back at let the family of the players sort it out. "Yes I know you stand to make millions but you might not and this will guarantee your sister can go to school so you are playing in that damn game."
Some won't care still, but it could at least stop this from turning into a landslide.

If I'm an NFL GM do I seriously wanna draft a guy who quits on his team before a bowl game
Yes, assuming they can help my team win.
I can motivate them with money and employment in the pro
The NFL is a business. GMs don't give a damn if you are loyal to your team, they care if you will help them win enough games to keep their job

Ed Oliver sat out regular season games for Houston and still went first round. It's a matter of time until some clear first-round talent just skips a whole year to prepare for the draft.

And if that guy was forced to play do you think he would give full effort?
It would be a terrible distraction and cause issues in locker room. That player would be trouble. The players on the team would want that guy to be removed and as far away from them and their bowl preparation/experience as possible.
He wouldn't be a distraction because he would have already dropped out of school to prepare for the draft. The next step after we have guys dropping out from CFP teams will be guys who quit in the middpe of the season after they appear in mock drafts.

I don’t like it, but it’s players looking out for their own best interest.
Saban doesn’t like it because he doesn’t give one frick about the players.

These kids want to play. Football is fun. They are sacrificing to make the most responsible decision.
Why is this so hard to understand?

If your draft prospects are very favorable right now, staying another year or even playing another game really is gambling with your career.
I'd like to see universities be given a good, legit way to offer potential first round picks a stack of money to deter bowl skipping. I propose the Bowl Attendance Grant.
It could be some money plus some kind of supplemental insurance if they are injured. It should be a sound Plan-B if a player's NFL career gets ruined on their last Bowl Game.

Yea, because they're chained and forced to attend college and play ball.
I understand that you're probably more comfortable wearing your white sheets but you know very little. Blacks didn't wear chains in the Jim Crow South either. They just worked their asses off for little pay for the benefit of others.
Let's see these kids risk injury; wake up early in the morning for workouts; attend team meetings; study film on their own; practice and then leave it on the field on Saturdays so coaches can make millions, schools even more, all the while helping attract more students to attend.

I agree. Next thing you know players are gonna quit as soon as they are eliminated from the playoff race.
