Agree with that. Players should suit up, it is a brotherhood. you fight and play for our brothers.

Exactly. Ridiculous to try and force them to. Its just the nature of the game today

No, it’s not insane. I played college athletics. When I signed my scholarship, the paperwork actually states that if you willfully disobey a coach or don’t perform up to reasonable standards (such as participate in practice or games when asked to do so), that you have to pay back your scholarship. The schools just aren’t enforcing it or the coaches aren’t asking the players to play when they request the coaches to not play them.
Some guys that would sit out have probably made more for the school than the value of the scholly.
These bowl games outside of the playoff are meaningless af

I feel there should be a rule that players cannot sit out. Bunch of selfish vaginas.
The guys who sit out are going to declare for the draft after the season, so they're "off the team" at that point anyway.
All anyone would need to do is claim injury, and for the 99% that fake one, there is going to be the 1% that have a legit one; so you can't play with scholarships. Imagine the backlash if/when you do penalize somebody, and he later does have some surgery or rehab.
It's a cultural thing. Go look at the NBA, with Lebron James deciding he's going to sit out stretches of the regular season "to rest". Good for him if that's what he wants to do, but if you want me to buy tickets to see you play, you better play. Otherwise, frick you and your attitude.
Google makes it hard to find actual numbers (because of his celebrity I'm sure), but James played 55 games, so he sat 27 out of 82. I'm having a problem finding the Lakers' record in those games, but I'd be willing to bet that's the difference between making the playoffs and making the lottery. Sure, he had some real injuries in that stretch, but I doubt seriously that anything serious enough to miss a third of the season.

You ask the player "Do you want to play?"

So...ALL injured players would have to miss out on the bowl experience?

Not saying you're wrong, but do you have a link to that rule?
There are a lot of college athletes that quit playing sports or drop out of college. Maybe they have to pay out that semester, but I can't see them having to pay it all back.
Scholarships are only for 1 year at a time, so it wouldn't be possible for it to cover previous years.

Explainer.
ETA: Although, I guess the legalese of the agreement could be that the school is required to continually offer a one-year scholarship for four successive years. So, you could be technically right. Yes, I am now explaining how I could be wrong.

require them to play but if they get injured, school has to pay them the millions they would have gotten from the draft.
Only fair. The schools are already making millions off these players and giving them an extremely overpriced “education”

If said player is 'injured' enough that he is unable to dress out and play, then, yeah- stay at home and focus on recovery.
Nobody wants to look at Greedy Williams in street clothes, laughing and joking on the sidelines, when you're playing backup WRs in the secondary during a game. I'm not saying he did that or not, but just using that as an example.

Bowl games should go away. Let teams negotiate and arrange post season games outside the playoffs if they want. Bowl games are useless

well, aren't there limits to amount of players that can travel?
This is unclear. I literally went through the football rule book, manual for Division I athletics, and postseason bowl handbook. None of them mention a travel roster limit. The SEC has a travel limit, but I'm not sure it applies to the bowls because each conference sets those limits. If the teams had to stick to the conference limits, it would be unfair to smaller conferences who have stricter limits.

The schools are chartering flights and/or buses. The extra cost for the schools, especially in P5 where this is happening, is nothing to even mention.
Furthermore, if schools implement this policy, the star guys would just have their hammy suddenly tighten during the last bowl prep practice. This is not a fight coaches want to get into because then they would be scrambling to replace a star player with no time before the bowl. They would much rather know going into the game which ones will actually be playing.

Players earn everything they get which is small “relative to” the coaches/schools who make the $$$. They entertain you and many of you get most of your self worth because of them.
They don’t owe you or the school one fricking red cent. Did Spurrier pay back USC when quit in mid-season.

That all sounds great until you have the opportunity (and obligation in some cases) to take care of your actual family.

Saban: Come to Bama and we will get you to the NFL and you will make millions of $$.
Also Saban: It is not good for you to sit out of this bowl game even though you are concerned about getting hurt and losing out on the NFL and millions of $$ I promised you we would get you.

All coaches say that and technically hes not lying. He provides every player with everything they could need to make it to the NFL. It's not his fault they dont get drafted.

Saban competes annually for the national championship. Dumb argument
