re: How quick are people going to change their tunes if top talent starts signing with HBCs

Since when? It's an institution that allows for lower-income minorities to have a better chance at earning a degree.
Hard to believe less than a handful of top football players signing with one is going to break those benefits.

re: Oregeron's recruiting was greatly overrated

He brought in great recruits. He just had no idea what to do with them after they got to campus

These recruits are being sold this as a way to better the black community
re: With NIL and Portal.... why not allow one and done like basketball?

most 18 & 19-year-olds are not developed enough to make it to the pros immediately and in baseball, most of them start off with years in the minor league.
They are two completely different sports

why not just wait and see what LSU does (who they hire)? He has 2 months to figure it out.

No. Recruiting isn't near over

Expected.

Let the elite talent go to school there. Let’s get back to major college football being all about the school, tradition, and education.

quote:HBCU's have a bigger purpose than football
The purpose of HBCUs is antiquated. Last I checked black players have been able to go to all universities since the early 1970s, so they should have all been shut down then.

Nope. The death started with the NIL decisions
re: NIL and Transfer Portal

quote:Yes and while nothing major yet, we're only 1 year into NIL
Other than Clemson, has this changed
But go look at the Top 100 players in the country and you'll see plenty of players going to schools that they probably wouldn't have if they could only bank on chosing top team to increase chances at reaching the next level.

Great for the players, but not the sport
Did you guys prefer it when Bama, Clemson, UGA, and Ohio State racked up all the best recruits and were playoff locks for so many years?

quote:Maybe not yet. Nor should they have to, but that doesn't mean they could make moves to bring in someone who does have a larger financial backing that can compete, even at a lower level, with NIL deals.
Again, Southern can’t do what JSU is doing.
I agree that it won't be the norm, but it is certainly not a bad thing for the sport

A Letter of Intent is a legally-binding contract which says that you will attend that college for a minimum of 1 academic year in exchange for an athletic scholarship. Once you sign a LOI, the recruiting process is over. No other college is allowed to recruit you.

Ok, and?
That’s still 18’playera out of 32 53 man rosters.

The numbers show that NFL teams prefer players from bigger conferences and better conferences.

That’s why this NIL and transfer portal are a perfect storm to try to create parity in college.

For one thing, if these guys do start going to HBCUs they won’t have the opportunity to play in the CFB playoffs or for a major CFB National Championship.
