I feel there should be a rule that players cannot sit out. Bunch of selfish vaginas.

I don't like players sitting out but I don't know how you go about making players play in the bowl games. Hopefully people smarter than me will be able to figure out one day.

At the least you require them to pay back the scholarship they were given. That’s a start. It’s most likely pocket change for the ones that do decide to sit out because they’ll soon be the ones drafted, but the schools should still charge them for it. If a student that is going to school on scholarship for academic reasons has their gpa drop below a certain level or decide to not go to class the scholarship is removed. Same standard should be applied to athletics.

You have just as much of chance at getting injured in a regular season game as you do in a bowl game. Sitting out is dumb.

Hell, it seems like a lot of guys get hurt in practice

Are they smart to do it? Yes.
Do I like it? No.
But you bet your arse I wouldn't play in a bowl game if I had potentially millions on the line. A scholarship ain't worth shite anymore these days.

You dont see players sitting out of the playoffs.
It's a team sport.

Not to mention, would you really want a skilled athlete playing at a dejected level? Or a walk-on playing balls to the wall?

That's insane

Unless you are in the playoffs, bowl games should focus on the following seasons team. Give other guys an opportunity. A future 1st rounder shouldn't be forced to play in the outback bowl.

"You will play in this bowl or you are off the team!" - Coach
"Great." - Player
And if the penalty was making them pay back scholarship money then they would just act hurt and not play.
It is what it is.

No, it’s not insane. I played college athletics. When I signed my scholarship, the paperwork actually states that if you willfully disobey a coach or don’t perform up to reasonable standards (such as participate in practice or games when asked to do so), that you have to pay back your scholarship. The schools just aren’t enforcing it or the coaches aren’t asking the players to play when they request the coaches to not play them.

Essentially these bowl teams, regardless if it's an unpopular bowl, are laying claim to the top 25. You work the regular season to get to the post season.
Meaningless games, as most say, is truly a dumb argument.

I don't like it either, but you can't force someone to play a game.

People often forget that a scholarship is pretty much a contract. Don't maintain your GPA? You can beg for a second chance, but it's terminable.

My personal opinion has always been if the player no longer wants to play or represent his team he shouldn't be allowed to enjoy the bowl experience, in the locker room or sidelines for the bowl game.
