Once again, Saban proves he's smarter than most of you.

One of the few things I disagree with him on.
I do as well. In the history of college football, only one team has ever won the NC playing more than 8 regular season conference games.
(2020 Alabama, in case you're wondering)

The guy who makes the playoffs every year and wins the title most of the time wants the format to stay the same, you don't say?

They want an exclusive club. More teams, more parity

You dumb frick!
Alabama's gonna be in the top tier year in, and year out. That means that they'll get the byes and play the home games. Hell, it's no skin off Bama's arse if all these inferior teams beat each other to death to earn the right to play Alabama in semi-finals and finals.
Maybe one of'em would sneak up on a team that could actually give The Tide trouble.

"I don't know that expanding ... if these are the best four teams and they played each other, I don't see the logic in it that if we had more teams there would be better games. I don't know how that adds up," said Saban, who has long been an advocate for the SEC playing nine league games instead of eight.
Mostly, I think he's right here. I'm not sure any other teams would have given Bama or UGA better games in the semifinals this year, and their first round games would have been uglier.
That said, there is some logic to the idea that expanding the playoffs would help spread the talent around better. Let's face it, if you are a 5* and want to win a national championship, it's really hard to turn down Alabama if they are offering (See Eli Ricks' transfer). After all, they have been in just about every playoff. Opening the playoffs might allow the talent to spread back to more teams.
We've seen this in the NFL. Once a team is in the playoff, they have a chance if they (especially their QB) gets hot.
Now, the imbalance won't go away until Saban retires, whether playoffs expand or not. So, as long as he's around, there's going to be a talent imbalance, and more boring games. It won't mean Bama wins all of them, but they are going to get a lot more chances than pretty much an other team.
JMHO.

You stupid motherfrickers still don't understand that Bama would have the byes and home field advantages, AND eventually play a team that's been run through the ringer playing similar teams to even get to Bama!
Hell! bring it on!...the best is gonna be the best, and y'all can't rig the game!

It makes complete sense.
Right now four teams can have great seasons: the ones in the playoffs.
In the old BCS system ten teams had great seasons: the two in the national title game, and the rest in four BCS Bowls when bowls meant more. Fans would use BCS Bowl appearances as an indicator of a satisfying season.
If it expands to 12 teams in the playoffs than twelve programs can then have great seasons all playing a final game that matters. Fans will start to count playoffs wins as metrics as program success even if they don’t lead to national titles like in NCAA basketball.
Maybe the same teams win the national titles but more fans will be engaged overall in the product to get there and that is a win for the sport.

Watch, Saban will retire soon because he can’t control young black families anymore because of NIL

Sure, maybe #12 could beat #5 in the first round. But if #12 proceeds to play #1, off of a bye week, with the national championship on the line, it’s going to be a blood bath.
And so we a round of good games, maybe a couple blowouts, then the championship. That's better.

If you extend the playoff, we are just going to have "meaningless playoff games".
My biggest concern would be the increase in "meaningless regular season games". The SEC is the toughest CFP ticket to punch and would be even if Bama/ Saban weren't around. That creates some incredibly intense regular season games that would be much less important imo. And SECC game is typically a top 5 elimination game, which creates off the charts intensity.
That said, with OU and Texas coming the SEC is banking on expansion....if I were a member of any other conference I'd fight like hell to keep it at 4 now.

Pardon me, but how does it go that the BCS made bowls more meaningful than the current CFP format? Under one system, 2 teams played for a national championship and 8 other teams played in very nice BCS bowl games. Under the other system, 4 teams play in 2 bowls serving as semi-finals, and 8 other teams play in very nice NY6 bowl games.
You’re sorta hand-waving your reason for saying that the CFP is worse than the BCS. You’re proposing MORE playoff games as a way of getting back to bowl meaningfulness, and I don’t quite get it.
Edit: If anything, I think the reason why bowl games feel “meaningless” now is that we’ve legitimized the national championship game with the semi-final approach.
Further playoff games are just going to further legitimize the playoff system at the expense of the rest of the bowl games.

If you want to get to CFP then play top teams and win!

. Just put the clear top 2 teams in like the BCS and call it a day.
Thats the problem. 2014, 2017, 2021 all show that this clarity isnt a thing.
