The rematch is the part I don't like
I don't need to see games that likely will be played in November already.

Rematch possibilities are what we are going to have to live with if we want a playoff. They are even more a possibility when the playoffs expand.

If we had not made it it would have been ND at #4 and Cincy at #3 and Michigan at #2.

You would rather see Michigan/Alabama? I mean, after what we did to them? Or Cincy/Alabama for the title?

Sure, maybe #12 could beat #5 in the first round.
But only because #5 is so bad. ND was #5 this year. Do we really need to see them in the playoffs every year getting blown out?

He speaks the truth. I think after the first round of the expanded playoff, you have a pretty good idea who is actually going to make it far enough to the national championship game.

The 4 team playoff semi final games as we saw this year, for example, is a total waste of time. Blowout after blowout. Just put the clear top 2 teams in like the BCS and call it a day.

We currently have the term "meaningless bowl games". If you extend the playoff, we are just going to have "meaningless playoff games". Does anyone here really care to see 5 seed Notre Dame play 4 seed Baylor in the cracker jack bowl only to advance to get beat by 30 to Bama in the next game or two? This will not work in the college football system where a select 5 or 6 programs are head and shoulders above everyone else in recruiting. This isn't the NFL

He might be correct if there wasn't a four week layoff after the end of the regular season. You would think he would understand that after coaching in the NFL, but I forgot about his NFL history.

Insecurity is hiding behind an alter account, Daniel. Just post with TexAg7, no need to pretend to be a Bama fan.

I would kinda like to see a eight team playoff, no byes for the top two.

I think there would be an occasional 6 beating a 3 and a very rare 7 beating a 2, butt I am pretty happy with the top 4 .

the whole dynamic would change. up to 8 teams will win a game in the playoffs. 4 games the first weekend, 4 games the second weekend. 2 games and then 1. there is definitely an opportunity for more good games than we have now. 1 vs 4 is always a dud. some years 2 vs 3 is bad.

give us 8 teams or 12 teams in the playoff, imo.

i agree with saban that we need 9 sec games. with a playoff format, there is no reason not to.

Then, what exactly is the harm if it works out as you say?

However, there have been plenty of teams that would be considered "eliminated from a championship" that no one would want a part of at the end of the year.

Saban isn’t wrong.

They expand the playoff then the talking heads that be start talking about “meaningless playoff games” when you have 1 v 12 and so on.

What will the argument be when the 2 semi-finals feature 4 SEC teams?

No harm, per se. Just that this will eventually lead to an ever expanding playoff that will never please everybody.

You have to find happiness in what you’ve got sometimes. And what we got is a 4 team playoff which is what everyone was begging for during the BCS. Now we got it, and now people are begging for an even shinier 12-team playoff.

I still think this ultimately leads to 4 power conferences in a league of their own, tbh.

Georgia went undefeated during the regular season and won their division. Not even the same. They also played Clemson OOC

And Georgia Tech.

8 SEC games plus 2 ACC games. Yeah, Tech sucks right now, but at least it's a P5 opponent.

If we go to 9 SEC games without expanding the 12 game regular season, most of those OOC matchups disappear. And not necessarily because of fear, but because of a lack of scheduling flexibility. When you have four open OOC dates to work with, OOC scheduling is much easier than with only 3 open dates.
