Further playoff games are just going to further legitimize the playoff system at the expense of the rest of the bowl games.
Which is why the jump is all the way to 12. Eight isn’t enough, because every bowl left over will basically be a weed eater bowl.

The NFL has 32 teams and 14 make the playoffs. The rules for making the playoffs are clear, defined and there is never a dispute on "who should make it".
The FBS has 130 teams and 4 get invited by a a group of people who choose who they like.
