Once everyone could pay players he suddenly retired.
Sure he's a decent coach but perhaps one of the biggest cheaters also.
Reminds me of John Wooden. Also one of the biggest cheaters ever in college sports.
But that's what college sports is. Whoever cheats and pays the most wins. It's always been that way.

He retired 3 full years after NIL started. He continued to bring in top 5 recruiting classes. He won the SEC and took the eventual national champion to overtime with Milroe as QB. He retired because he got too old, he couldn't get the assistants he wanted because they wanted guarantees, and he hated kids coming to him as soon as the season was over with their hand out.

What did Mizzou have to offer the kind of players that wanted to go to the NFL that required other schools like Alabama to need to pay those players to overcome?

This fire was started years ago by the NCAA and the conferences, maybe Saban benefited from unequal enforcement but he certainly did not create the environment.
