College football wasn’t like every other sport, and what’s why everyone loved it so much
Yes, but everyone was always pissed because there was no playoff so the best teams didn't always get a chance to show it.
Or we can go back to when they crowned the national champ before the bowl games if you like??

24 teams are far too many. And my gosh, giving TWO mid-majors an auto-bid??? Are they crazy?
At that point you'd just be asking top players to opt out and begin a trend. Hell, I might opt out if I had play 5 more games with the NFL draft only 4 months away.

I say just convert all the decent bowls into a 24 team playoff system, it will give them meaning and make them more interesting for everyone, maybe help with early opt-outs too.

Absolutely no way should the SEC be playing welfare for the rest of the conferences. We should either be getting more bids or more money.

Increasing past 16 will just lead to a bunch of blowouts in the first round
How is that any different from the past two years?
Look at the scores from last year (and no G5 teams were in those games).

If we're going to expand and completely remake the college football postseason why can't we just get rid of the bowls and play all the playoff games on campus until the natty? At least that would give teams something to play for.

Agreed. We don’t need 16 teams, we just need G5 auto bids to go away.

So Sankey will get criticized no matter what position he takes on this
He's an employee. His position will be determined by what a majority of the member institutions tell him his position will be.

Did they not Lear anything this year with Tulane and JMU? Really need the BCD back.
Tennessee lost 42-17 in the first round last year.

IMO - we need however many teams is necessary to stop discouraging scheduling games like Tx/OSU and encouraging Greg Byrne to cancel the Bama/OSU series. I’m sick of teams being rewarded for easy schedules. If it takes 16 or 24 teams to encourage big regular season games again, then so be it.

Expanding beyond current number will lead to a bunch of blowouts unless more P5 teams get in instead of G5 teams, realistically their are about 4-5 teams with talent to win CFP title rest are just placeholder
You have a short memory. Look at last year's first round scores.

I think they should stay at 12, but revise the bid for the G5 to be ONLY if they are actually ranked in the CFPP top 12, simple fix.

I'm cool with that.

I think it best to break away from the G5, let them have their own playoff, I'd watch it.
Go to a 4-Team Conference Playoff (takes place of the conference championship) and the winners of each Conference play in 4-Team Playoff:
2025 P4:
ACC
Georgia Tech at Virginia
Miami at Duke
B1G
Michigan at Indiana
Oregon at Ohio State
Big 12
Houston at Texas Tech
Utah at BYU
SEC
Ole Miss at Alabama
Texas A&M at Georgia
*Somehow only 2 of these games are rematches of season play and both are Big 12.

Need to drop it down to 8 and pick the 8 best teams
Has there ever been, in the history of pro or major college sports that they reduced the number of teams in a playoff once they increased it?

solid take.
I suspect these rumors are the only reason Texas hasn't canceled the ND games already
We were not amused with how they weighed out of conference one bit this season
I want a system that rewards / takes into account marquee out of conference instead of rewarding playing cupcakes which is the current situation
