I just don't know how someone could possibly CHOOSE to live in Mississippi if they weren't forced to.

I’ve lived in multiple states, and like anywhere else, Mississippi has spots that aren’t great and spots that are really damn nice.

Making a broad statement like “who would choose to live in Mississippi” is just ignorantly lazy.

But hey — if you need a little help, even USA Today ranks Oxford as one of the best small towns in the country:

I live in Texas for work (31 years), but will happily retire in Mississippi.

The goal of the next month is to muddy the waters as long as possible. Then swoop in and steal as much talent as possible. LSU, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida…..these schools are all right there in his footprint and available to be poached

This is the only thing that makes sense for why Lane is slow walking the extension. Loading up talent for two more years of playoff runs isn’t a bad idea. Borderline genius honestly. Florida and LSU are about to get F’d in the A.

I’ve lived in Dallas and Austin and traveled all over Texas. There really isn’t much difference. All your cities are just sprawling small towns with strip malls, chain restaurants, and cookie cutter houses. Completely devoid of culture other than being super arrogant about Texas for absolutely no reason whatsoever.

I think he stays, but until he signs the extension, all bets are off.

You sound mad.

You also sound like you didn't read my comment.

For one, I didn't burn any connections.

Secondly, I said that the things I've heard would apply either if he were actually leaving or if he were staying, so it doesn't really tell us anything concrete.

One of them also knows someone in the AD at Ole Miss and heard something similar.

From everything I’ve heard, Ole Miss feels like they’ve answered every single ask he’s made. Whatever Lane wanted, they’ve shown him exactly how they’ll get it done. They also have the family angle locked in. And the staff members he’d want to bring with him to Florida? Several have made it clear they’d prefer to stay at Ole Miss.

But there is a big-picture element Florida fans need to understand:

In two years, Ole Miss loses its ace card. His kids will be out of Oxford—graduated or in college somewhere else.

Right now, the present-day Lane Kiffin wants to stay. He’s genuinely happy. But the Lane who looks 3–5 years down the road? He’s asking himself whether Oxford still feels the same when his kids aren’t here anymore.

That’s the real tension in this whole thing..

It’s close to the beaches in Memphis. Awesome.

Seems like Lane possesses the means to get to the beach whenever he really needs to.

I’m not seeing Lane’s ultimate decision hinging on whether he can jump in the car on any random weeknight and make the 60-90 minute drive to the beach from Gainesville.

And I’m one who loves FL’s beaches.

What... we have beaches... here's 2. Well, one is closed, but don't see why we couldn't open it back up...

He can jump on a jet and head to the Keys in the same amount of time.

People can’t seem to change the criteria of what’s important. Location was a much bigger issue when coaches were making $1million or less. All that really matters now is if there’s an airport nearby.

The Kiffin's (including Lane's parents and Layla) had/have strong roots in Central Florida. Not sure what happens but we will know in a few weeks.

I’m not saying he won’t be your coach next year but it’s hilarious that gator fans are pretending that central Florida and a his minimal history there are going to have any influence whatsoever

Then why not just sign an extension and end the circus?

He's under contract through 2031 due to an automatic extension built into his current contract. That extension was triggered just this season with the win over OU.

Coaches don’t float “final chapter” language right before bolting.

No, but they do it to drive up the offers they get from other schools.

Not saying he’s leaving, but language about staying put doesn’t always predict the future.

I remember Saban telling everybody he wasn’t going to be the next coach at Alabama.

This is all Neal’s fault, fwiw.

He's got Florida and LSU fans buying end of year subscriptions left and right I'd think. Several MSU fans as well.

I think Lane has 2 more Falls in Oxford before replacing Sark at Texas in 2028. And I wouldn't blame him one bit. Texas will allow his brand to flourish much more than the other schools. Cause he is a brand all his own. It's why Alabama will never hire him.
