I remember him from the early to mid 1990’s. Dude had some flash that’s for sure.

Apparently not many people did. He'd been fighting a rare form of cancer for the past few years. I thought it may be a hoax at first but some folks on the Gamecock boards from Union and Chesterfield (where he coached before becoming a bar owner) confirmed it.

Tragic to die so young, 52 years old. May he RIP.

My first ever Carolina game was his first start. I remember that day sitting with my friend and his dad who took us to our first Carolina game ever. RIP Tanneyhill. You are a legend. Thank you for the memories!

RIP. A little before my time of actually paying attention to football.
Phil Petty is the first Gamecock QB I really remember playing, in which I have fond memories of, and of course Jefferson Pilot sports.

Good man. I remember he quarterbacked the Gamecocks to a victory in Tiger Stadium the week after the Interception Game at Auburn.

this news cuts hard for all generations of Gamecocks - 18 took us on one helluva wild 4 year ride in our history -
after USC - he won 5 SC state titles as a high school football head coach - 2 runners up -
he was Carolina Football's first "Steve" -
2006 SC Sports Hall of Fame as well as 2010 Butler County PA Hall of Fame
rest high on that mountain #18 - and thank you for all the fun & wild times - on and off the gridiron - Forever to Thee -
1992 FR season - #16 Tennessee 23 Carolina 24 - Halloween - Johnny Majors last game -
1993 SO season - Carolina 23 #14 Georgia 21 - Taneyhill as cool as the other side of the pillow at the goal line with the clock running out -

Wow...that sucks. Taneyhill was a gamer, and I'm sure he fought like hell against Cancer, too. I am so sorry for the South Carolina fanbase. He was 1 of a kind.

With the lens of history, the best thing about that clip isn't the SC victory. It's listening to Larry Munson and Bob Fulton on the call. Two greats.

Tommy Suggs screaming yes multiple times after Brandon Bennett leapt over the pile on 4th down to win the game was peak Gamecock radio. I miss Bob Fulton every time I hear Todd Elllis.
