Yes there is a coaching changes board now but, this is big news for most in the conference.
Ole Miss fans are you happy, mad, or do you not care?

quote:

By not reaching the postseason, one would think coach Matt Luke’s job would be in jeopardy, but that’s not necessarily the case.

quote:

Per FootballScoop.com, Luke is expected to return for a fourth season as Ole Miss’s head coach for the simple reason that the school can’t afford to fire him:

quote:

Luke’s contract would place his buyout around $6.5 million and, when combined with the contracts of offensive coordinator Rich Rodriguez and defensive coordinator Mike MacIntyre, would push the cost of dismissing Luke well north of $12 million. University leadership has told AD candidates that is too much for the university to bear at this time.

Holy cow I can’t believe he’s been there that long. Seems like freeze was fired a few months ago

This is pure ignorance. In my opinion, RichRod would need to be let go as well, but Mac has done a pretty good job this year compared to the past 3. I understand if another coach came in and wanted "his guys" but who's to say Mac would be let go? Also, if Luke stays another year, season ticket sales will plummet once again which begins the snowball effect.

I mean he took over an absolute awful program that was just hit with probation, and in year 3 has a squad that, while losing, has still competed fairly well in every game they’ve played. Their defense in particular had come a long way

Think you give him and Rich Rod another year with Plumlee.

Considering the mess he took over, he hasn’t done a terrible job at Ole Miss.

Not really. It would be big news if the program being discussed were actually relevant

This seemed obvious. Unlike every other team in the conference Ole Miss has a reason to suck, plus he is one of them so he gets a little extra slack.

Get an AD first, and then next year let that AD hire a new coach. You don't want to do it all at once, that is how Arky ended up with a Chad Morris.

Matt is a good guy and a god fearing man. Ole Miss is lucky to have him.

I hope A&M spanks us (not in the way they'd like to) and Clemson fans outnumber us and they destroy us. Then hopefully we'll have a lot of empty seats in Columbia next year.

Well, its not a coaching "change." He was a poor oline coach that Freeze should have fired. He inherited a team with a quality qb and the best wr core in the country and managed to look like warmed over dogshit. I doubt any power five school would hire him as a oline coach let alone hc.

That buyout number almost made me spit out my drink.

Goodness.

Any chance of Rich Rod or Mac becoming the full time guy down the road? Both have had some success as an HC with underdog programs

Not sure why this is surprising.
Who else are they going to hire, in the throes of serving violations?
Luke is doing them a favor.

We need a new OC and S&C coaches. It's ridiculous how many injuries we have, and it's a regular occurrence.

They're not even taking advantage of this year with Plumlee. They are splitting QBs too much.

Given the circumstances, he's done a fair job.
