If Lane leaves it will be for the NFL.

Take that up with Yahoo Sports, CBS, and On3

That's going to be tough considering most of the SEC pays better than most of the NFL.
Brian Dabol made $5mill/year. Lane makes $9mill/year.

Lane has money. Sometimes it's about personal dreams, ambitions, and goals.

LSU's buyout with Kelly is more than twice what Florida's is for Napier. yet, Florida can't outbid LSU? LSU might have a few bucks more than Florida, but not that much.
money and recruiting isn't the issue/road block here. it's where Lane wants to be. period. where is that....? only Lane knows.

Neal thinks he's going to LSU if he leaves, by the way.
That said, Neal's source on this is Jimmy Sexton. Jimmy is as good of a source as you can ask for but Jimmy will also drop info that's good for Jimmy's clients. That's why Neal is a really solid source for coaching confirmations but you sometimes have to take his rumors with a grain of salt.

Lane has not made a final decision at all.
I really think he's only going to give Florida an actual look which is supposedly happening next week during our off week.
But even if he passes on UF, which I believe he will in the end, we have to also get past the NFL hiring season as well....which is the real threat imo.
People need to just enjoy the season.
We cant control what Lane does in the end.
We didn't hire him to fall in love with Ole Miss and love us forever. We hired him to win football games.

He's not going to be offered a legitimate NFL job.

If Lane doesn't think Ole Miss is a program capable of winning a national title he may leave.
If he does that this year, what are his options?
LSU?
Positives - Have pretty good talent base (6th in talent composite) and have won titles recently (2019 is more recent than all but Bama, UGA, Michigan and OSU).
Negatives - They have no patience and may not be close enough for that lack of patience. They just fired a coach who was 5-3 and who's worst completed season had 9 wins.
Florida?
Positives - Have adequate talent base (12th in composite), have won titles with good coaches in the past (Spurrier and Meyer) and are more paitent than LSU.
Negatives - More of a step back from OM right now in terms of how close they are even if ceiling is much higher.
Auburn?
Positives - Adequate talent (13th in composite).
Negatives - Little brother in their state and don't really lead in recruiting any particular area. Perhaps are no longer as good a job as they were in the past.
In my mind, UF is the easy choice if Lane wants to leave Ole Miss right now. But it also wouldn't be crazy for him to hang around and wait for a truly elite job to open up. Bama, Michigan, OSU or Texas for example. Texas in particular could be somewhere Lane sees as potentially opening up in the near future and a better spot than any currently open.

Fans always assume these coaching searches are much further along than they are.
I doubt Lane will actually make a decision until his season is over.

Definitely. But he's smart enough to not go into a bad situation. The Giants front office has been awful for years now. It's very similar to the Saint's ownership/front office situations.

We lost 2 DBs to LSU where the money was equal this past offseason. The reason they picked LSU was those reasons. If we had those 2 we are probably undefeated.
Haven't thought about this....we did win some portal battles last year that prove we will pay. We'll see, maybe he goes to FL, but my gut says LSU. He better come on before Nick snatches it up lol...j/k ;)

Neal just started this thread in response to Chase's thread:
I don't know I can add a lot to what Chase said...
I don't know I can add a lot to what Chase said...
quote:
That was extremely well-written and well-sourced.
I've worked the story from the other angles and some things are starting to crystalize. I'm hearing Kiffin -- and I would assume this means Kiffin's representation and people around him -- have given Florida a number for NIL that would be required for him to win the way he wants to win. I have no idea if they've met that number, but I'd bet on it.
As for salary, I've heard some specificity, and my experience tells me when I start hearing that, antennae should go up. I've heard $15 million a year, which is a little more than what I've heard LSU is prepared to offer. Don't hold me to that number. I'm not reporting it. I've just heard it enough to think there's something to it.
Like Chase said in his post, there's a matter-of-factness to Florida's confidence at this point. It's hard to ignore.
There's more, but I need to get it better sourced before I report it.
I will say I think Saturday's postgame press conference will be potentially interesting, as I suspect there will be reporters in the room who cover Florida who ask somewhat direct questions of Kiffin.

Of course, definitely the guy in the know is some dude with 40k posts on a random message board. That's probably the first person Lane revealed his plans to.

I see him going to LSU over Florida but I obviously see him staying.

Cool. Not sure how else someone here can tell you that Neal doesn’t have any good sources anymore. His podcast is only good if you’re wanting to get tips on bourbon or the Cubs.

Hey Finch....You got Coach O, Coach Wilson and Austin Thomas down there in FL trying to get in Lane's ear?? Cause we do
But, you have his ex wife in your pocket....good luck
