I know at least 2 doctors who both left vet school for med school. The internal med guy said "you only have one to study in med school". I agree, some doctors really aren't that smart.
Exactly. You have to know a TON of stuff to be a vet.

They take the same undergrad as human doctors and their mcats and gre scores are actually higher than the average person accepted to med school.
A very difficult degree to get and a difficult profession. Your patients can't tell what is wrong and you often have to jury rig solutions. I wonder where former SEC member Tulane ranks? I've heard they have a very good Vet program.

I know plenty of doctors I wouldn't let treat a person, let alone my dog. I'd take them to a vet rather than them. Any day.

You typed all that just to give him the answer he was looking for at the end
But the person reading that answer probably still walks away with the wrong impression.
I don't understand anyone going to veterinary school today. In terms of the financial return on the investment its just an irrational choice.
Just the debt from veterinary school runs upwards of 200k. That doesn't include housing and undergraduate costs. That's not a good decision for a career that starts out around what a plumber makes.
Buying a practice is also much more out of reach than it used to be since the VCA and Banfield companies can pay more than a veterinarian can rationally afford.

LSU is definitely not #22 !!! That is an absolute lie.

Yes, it is an irrational choice. As usually happens with animals.

Kentucky and Auburn made a deal early on.
Ya, I'm aware of that. "WE" being Auburn.
My niece is gonna go to the Air Force for college money and enroll there.
Although, this looks like a "list from my arse" post.

I knew that State had a top 25 vet school. I did not know that there are only 32 vet schools in the country.
The MSU vets that I know do pretty well. The vet school has a cow with a hole in it so you can see its insides. It’s a must see on the elementary school tours.
I dated a pre vet school girl while at State. Lot of fun but her apartment stunk because she had multiple animals.

Funny story:
My daughter is interested in veterinary medicine, so I asked an old friend/vet (Florida grad) who has owned and operated a large vet hospital/clinic for a lot of years, of all the interns that you've had through your place, which school prepared them best. He didn't miss a beat, and said,"You're not gonna believe what I tell you, BUT.....Mississippi State, by far, were the most advanced." He said that they had been "hands on" with most all of the normal procedures seen on a "regular" day, whereas, the others had only been taught, and viewed them at school. I later came to find out that the classes at MSU are much smaller, and they're required to participate in the procedures.
My daughter is currently pursuing that field there. (Magna cum laude with Biological Science degree.)

You misspelled “regarded”!

In the old days, AU vet school held places for Kentucky residents.
As others have said, AU and UK still have that agreement. AU also had that agreement with Tenn until the late 90s or early 2000s when UTk got their vet school up and running.
Auburn has turned out a good number of marine-bio vets due to the ability to work at Dauphin Island Sealab (and now AU VetMed actually has a facility in Baldwin County).
One of the vets who treated the real life Dolphin Tale dolphin is an AU VetMed alum.

Several years ago I told my doctor he made a mistake and should have become a vet.
I joked that vets don't have insurance running their practice. He told me he had done some tests on an elderly patient and that Medicare had sent him a check for $3.00.
He took his dog to the vet and noticed the vet had the exact machine that he had and the vet did some tests on his dog and charged him $40.00.
Doctor said he made copies of his medicare test and payment and of his vet bill and sent the copies to his Senator asking why did medicare think a patient was worth less than a dog?
He agreed he should have become a vet.

The only positive I can see is that doctors don't get bitten as often.

According to US News & World Report, the answer is:
4. TAMU
9. UF
10. UGA
14. Auburn
19t. Mizzou
19t. UT
22. LSU
24. State
Damn, I thought we were better than that. Under Keenum, our athletics have gotten better but our academics have fallen by the wayside - and it's not like we had a ton of room to fall being a Public university in Mississippi.
Oh well, at least our vet school can keep our Bulldog alive for more than a few years at a time.

USNWR doesn't evaluate quality of academics. It is just a numbers game of applicants, acceptance rates, how many people on staff, etc.
You could have the absolute most successful experimental cancer research professor in the country on your staff and you get no consideration for that.
