You included runner up in baseball for some teams but ignored ours in 2008

Also, you could argue semantics and say we were football runner up in 2007 since we finished #2 in tbe polls

Be truthful here, in terms of the big picture of college sports, football is 75% of it all alone, and thus should be rated as so. Men's basketball is about 20% of the total, baseball about 4%, and the rest of all the sports make up the last 1%.

It's different levels at different schools. Sure, baseball is important in Baton Rouge, but lacrosse is huge in Durham, NC. Hockey is huge in Ann Arbor. Track is huge in Fayetteville.

I think you’d have to go deeper into it beyond national champions. Such as SEC championships, winning pct, post season tournament appearances and wins/losses in those, bowl game record, etc.

Sometimes an average program has a dream season and wins it all but is otherwise meh or sometimes a great consistent program can’t get over the championship hump I.e state baseball, Georgia football.

If you want a true ranking then you have to look at overall success beyond just national championships

To be truly objective, you should add additional weight to Football (Conf Title + Natl Title, no runner-ups) and buffer basketball (Final Four) and baseball (CWS) to account for random luck of those tournaments.

Florida 27
3 Football Champs
8 Football Conf Champs
5 Final Fours
11 CWS

LSU 24
3 Football Champs
5 Football Conf Champs
1 Final Four
15 CWS

Alabama 19
7 Football Champs*
9 Football Conf Champs
0 Final Fours
3 CWS

Auburn 8
1 Football Champs
3 Football Conf Champs
1 Final Four
3 CWS

Tennessee 6
1 Football Champs
2 Football Conf Champs
0 Final Fours
3 CWS

UGA 8
0 Football Champs
3 Football Conf Champs
0 Final Fours
5 CWS

That is your definitive ranking, with Tennessee getting the nod over UGA because they qualified in 3 categories instead of 2.

If you include Final Four and CWS appearances why not include CFP appearances?

Georgia: 1 baseball (1990) (football runner up 2017)

Arkansas: 1 basketball (1994) (basketball runner-up 1995) (runner up baseball 2018)

South Carolina: 2. 2 Baseball (2010 & 2011) (baseball runner-up 2002 & 2012)

Kentucky 3. 3 basketball (1996, 1998, 2012)

Alabama: 7. 7 football (1992, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2017, 2020) (football runner-2016 & 2018) (baseball runner-up 1997)

Florida: 7 Football: (1996, 2006, 2008,) Basketball: (2006, 2007) Baseball: (2017)

Tennessee: 1 Football (1998)

LSU: 9 Baseball: (1991, 1993, 1996, 1997, 2000, 2009) Football: (2003, 2007, 2019) (runner up football 2011)

Auburn: 1 Football (2010) (runner up football 2013)

Vanderbilt: 2 Baseball (2014, 2019)

Mississippi St.: none. (runner up in baseball 2013)

Ole Miss: None. (No runner ups)

Mizzou: None. (No runner ups)

Texas A&M: None. (No runner ups)

Interesting that if you were to go post-2010, that list changes pretty drastically (tie-breaker going to the team with most recent title, then most recent runner-up)

1. Alabama - 5 titles, 2 runner-ups
2. South Carolina - 2 titles, 1 runner-up
3. Vanderbilt - 2 titles
4. LSU - 1 title, 1 runner-up
5. Auburn - 1 title, 1 runner-up
6. Florida - 1 title
7. Kentucky - 1 title
8. Arkansas - 1 runner-up
9. Georgia - 1 runner-up
10. Mississippi State - 1 runner-up
11. Mizzou
12. Texas A&M
13. Ole Miss
14. Tennessee

As others have pointed out Big 3 sports isn't a thing. The Big 3 is a professional sports concept (MLB, NFL and NBA). The idea that college baseball is on par with college basketball is a joke; the idea that it's on par with college football is a farce.

Isn't making the CFP equivalent to making the Final Four?

Because CWS and FF are Tournament Regional Champions. In sports with a lot more fluke results, winning your bracket is an actual feat.

Football Playoff appearances are just a big money invitational with nothing to back them up. That's why the championship won on the field (SECCG) is included.

Or just a fluke, as you pointed out.

I love how we pretend that college baseball is one of the major sports in collegiate athletics. I'm not a basketball fan but even I acknowledge how important March Madness is to schools when it comes to revenue. But baseball? Yeah...no.

No one has made any claims regarding revenue here. No one has said that baseball is on par with football or anything close to it. I would think at most schools these will be the 3 most attended sports, and in the good ol' USA, they are the 3 most popular sports. An argument can be made for women's basketball and also gymnastics, with the crowds they bring at some schools, but at the end of the day these are the 3 major sports.

All you football only folks should probably just sit this one out if you aren't interested in other sports. The title was pretty clear, and the rest of us understand that you were too fricking goofy to learn another sport growing up.

Revenue is an important conversation when labeling "importance" - because viewership and interest are what generate revenue. Women's basketball and men's hockey generate more revenue than College Baseball. Truthfully, College Baseball is a niche sport - and I don't believe there is any metric to indicate they are a "Big 3" in College athletics.
