What? They just finished a $300 million
plus renovation at the Coliseum

$315 million renovation

You need to get out a little more.

TCU seems high. They weren't even a P5 school until a few years back. They don't have a giant fanbase. Their stadium is fine. No major history. Did well enough as a G5, but no other real history.

They have a National Title Trophy they can point to unlike Baylor or Texas Tech.... yes it was from the 1930s, but it was within one year of A&M's only Championship.

Its way easier to recruit kids to Fort Worth than it is to Waco or Lubbock.

The state of Texas has 160 kids on NFL rosters. That's a ton of talent, and when it comes to in-state schools, TCU is the 3rd most desirable place for most kids to play after Texas and Texas A&M.

the big-city problems that plague downtown Austin in general.

Yep. Austin is following the Portland model. Cool, wierd city, with very liberal local policy attracts a lot of young people who want a cool city vibe.

Then cost of living rises as the city grows, homeless and addicts start moving in un large numbers due to lax enforcement of laws, and things get dicier in the downtown, but growth continues due to the momentum already gained.

As things get more expensive and the city itself gets more seedy and dangerous, and less livable people, companies stop moving in, some start leaving, and the professionals start leaving for better options, leaving the less desirable residents behind.

Portland is entering phase 3. Austin is still in phase 2, probably 5-10 years behind Portland. But the city will become a liability for for UT at some point.

The fact that very little top talent comes from in-state is also a problem.

As of the beginning of this season, there were 27 players on NFL rosters from the state of Missouri, and another 15 from Kansas which likely comes from the KC metro which straddles the Missouri border.

Compare that to the state of Arkansas which only has 12 kids on NFL rosters.

That is a HUGE talent gap.

But if Arkansas gets more talent (on paper) every year regardless I'm not sure why it matters if it comes from in-state or not. If you include Kansas for Missouri I'm not sure why you can't include Oklahoma City or Tulsa for Arkansas. Even east Texas is only a couple more hours away.

I see ole miss being in the SEC west as being a negative just like SC being in the same state with Clemson. I don't see how it's a better job to be honest.

If you're thinking about Alabama objectively it's not a great job. I'd take USC, Florida, Texas, Ohio St, Georgia and LSU over Bama.

Decent in state rival, huge pressure any time but it'll be crazy for the guy after Saban.

It really isn't.

I'm assumming you're referring to Metro
LA up past the Valley.

Still not a bad area but not close to Miami/Fort Lauderdale when it comes to pumping out P5 and NFL players.

Ole miss, North Carolina. MSU, Missouri, South Carolina are not more attractive jobs than Arkansas.

How many players on NFL rosters are from each state:

48- South Carolina
42- North Carolina
27- Missouri (plus 15 from Kansas, mostly KC metro)
27- Mississippi
12- Arkansas

That's a pretty big gap.

Arkansas has a lot of money and great facilities and NWA is an awesome place to live.

Agreed on all of this. That's why its somewhat close. But Arkansas is the most difficult job in the SEC in terms of asking a coach to try to compete in the West despite having an inferior pool of in-state talent not to mention the coldest weather. At least the Mississippi schools have double the in-state talent, and are very closer to other recruiting hotbeds like Memphis.

For South Carolina, is an on campus stadium really that big of a deal when it comes job desirability when we have nice facilities next to W-B?

I get from a fan experience perspective on campus is nice, but not sure if it's that big of a deal otherwise.

Was in Austin about a year ago and stayed at the JW Marriott downtown. I was amazed at how many homeless people there were down there.

That said, Austin is still a very happening city that is very popular with the young kids.

Austin is growing because people leaving California and other “blue” states want to live in a place that thinks like them. Which is ironic and sad at the same time because the reason they left California is due to failing liberal policies.

Have been to a game there and was just in LA in September. I get out plenty.

You can renovate all you want, but the Colosseum is still in a horrible part of town as is the University itself. The PAC 12 just does not have the same atmosphere as the SEC... not even close. Unless kids desire to go to school specifically in Southern California (which is I'm sure appealing to West Coast kids), there are at least 7 programs in the SEC that are far more attractive to most kids if they are visiting a big game on campus.

Only a Georgia fan would rank the Georgia job hire than Clemson and LSU. Three DIFFERENT coaches have won NCs here in the last 20 years. Two of those type are the smartest guys in the world. LSU won the most games of any SEC school between 2000-2019. You guys really are delusional.

Alabama

Expectations will be unrealistic post-Saban. One of, if not the greatest, college football coaches ever. In state competition in a small staet.
quote:

Ohio State

Top 5 job no doubt.
quote:

Florida

Good job, but tough given 2 other major in state schools. Great recruiting ground, but everyone is coming there.
quote:

Georgia

I'd put this as the top job in the SEC tbh. Minimal in state competition (Georgia Tech just isn't committed to football). Fertile recruiting. Enough success for pedigree, but not so much for Saban-level expectations.
quote:

Texas

Maybe the toughest job, but Coaches who can do the politicking will be gods here. Texas is mecca of HS football. Top 5 job no doubt.
quote:

Clemson

Wayyyyy too high. Recency bias heavy. Who wants to follow Dabo's success here? If Dabo jumps to Bama post Saban, what does Clemson become. Relatively small state, Gamecocks traditionally bigger, and not particularly strong state recruiting wise.
quote:

LSU

P5 jobs with only 1 major D1 university always bump up in my rankings. Ability to rally entire state is big. The state may be under water alot of the time, but this program isn't.
quote:

Oklahoma

Blue Blood. Some in state competition from the Pokes, but Red River rivalry helps elevate Sooners to higher status. National brand. Basically Texas for recruiting.
quote:

Texas A&M

Nah. Longhorn little bro ain't anywhere near Top 20.
quote:

Auburn

Nope. Too high. Small state, 2nd big school. Unrealistic expectations.
quote:

Notre Dame

Blue Blood, but also perhaps the toughest job in P5. Actually adhere to academic standards. National Brand. Top 10 job. Would be Top 5, but difficulty drops it a little.
quote:

Michigan

Blue Blood, but continuing theme, split state with Mich State. Been able to raid NY/NJ/Beltway lately, which is widely underrated for talent.
quote:

Penn State

This job was always great, but I think its even more attractive now (James Franklin recognized I think). Proud history ready to move on from JoPa mess. Bill OB saved the program from falling into irrelevance. Pitt isn't really a threat to statewide dominance.
quote:

Oregon

New Money. That Nike Money/Brand makes this very attractive. Bit gimmicky for my taste, but kids love that stuff. If only it were in a bigger state...
quote:

Wisconsin

Top 10 job (admit I may be biased). Only P5 in state boost. Good history. Easier division. The one tough part is getting the 5 star position player studs. Fan base not unrealistic though.
quote:

Florida State

Same as Florida. Tough state. Lots of competition.
quote:

USC

Way low. For a long time, USC was the only "big" game in town. Rams/Chargers may be back, but USC still holds as strong brand in largest state.
quote:

Washington

Weather here sucks. Certainly strong program, but Location/Game Times/Lack of Cali glamour make it tougher.
quote:

Tennessee

Basically Lesser Nebraska. Memphis' success harms the program.
quote:

Ole Miss

Nah. Tiny state, split with Miss State. States on either side have much stronger programs/access to recruiting bases.
quote:

Miami

Swag, but its a tough line to walk. When they rolling, they a Top 20 job, but rebuilding here is a nightmare.
quote:

Virginia Tech

Maybe the one program that can survive being lil bro in their state. UVA is always more academic focused than athletic. It allows VT to thrive more than they would.
quote:

North Carolina

Basketball is first. Football is afterthought.
quote:

UCLA

Basketball yes. Football no. USC owns football. UCLA Basketball. Is and will forever be.
quote:

South Carolina

Used to be higher. But Clemson's recent success knocks it down.
quote:

Michigan State

Tough. Had some great success despite being lil bro, but never going to be a top tier job.
quote:

Nebraska

Peak of Unrealistic Expectations. But also, Most Committed fan base, bar none. Very tough to recruit, but great job IMO.
quote:

Mississippi State

Lolz
quote:

TCU

Gotten Better since joining P5, but always going to be a small private school in Longhorn state. Not Top 30 job.
quote:

Missouri

Only P5 school in state boost. Historically been basketball school, but seems to be leveling out. One benefit to being Northernmost (or any direction furthest from rest of conference), is that we can recruit Iowa/Chicago/kansas, etc and pluck top talent there.
quote:

Arkansas

Down on luck lately, but a decent job IMO. Single P5 school boost.
quote:

Oklahoma State

Lil bro. What happens when T Boone dies? Dude has sunk so much money into athletics there.
quote:

NC State

Lil bro. Tons of instate competition.
quote:

Kentucky

Basketball.
quote:

Louisville

Basketball too.
quote:

Stanford

Academics.

Will give it a think and give Top 25 in a bit

Yep. The LSU job is so desirable that you had to settle for the Shrimp Boat Captain. You could have anyone you wanted, and that's who you chose?

You said it was "crumbling" and obcobviously didn't know about the renovation and the area around the campus has been shitty for decades and never stopped an from winning NC's.

When has their gameday expirence ever really compared to an on campus big time SEC program?

The bigger issue is obviously money and
the PAC 12 TV contract along with participation rates in CA HS FB. Still doesn't mean there aren't plenty of athletes in a very close proximity and solid alumni base that won't pump money into the program.
