The stoutness of Auburn’s defensive line was pretty much the only positive takeaway from their game against San Jose State.

That's the ingredient for 4-5 losses.

You need to hit “return” at least 17 times between LSU and South Carolina

They also have an atrocious offensive line. We should have been much better. We will see what our run defense really looks like this week.

Were 28th nationally against P5 teams.

38 teams are giving up under 100 yards a game currently because of early OOC games against weak teams.

It's also what happens when one of the best D linemen in the country goes out for the season early in the first game.

It’ll get better.. y’all just had the misfortune of playing a heavy run team your 2nd game.

Southern was losing 51-0 at halftime. Their QB barely throws the ball. Yes they piled up some rushing yards at the end of the game when walkons were playing. Their first offensive score was in the middle of the 4th quarter. They went 3 and out on 8 of their first 11 drives and only threw the ball 16 times despite being down 37-0 after the first quarter. 138 of their 262 total yards came on their last two possessions. FSU had 132 yards on 37 carries, which is probably a better indication of how good LSU's rush defense is than what they did against Southern.

LSU won't have a great rushing defense because their linebackers are just not very good, and losing their best defensive player on the line to a torn ACL didn't help either, but you're not going to get an indication of much in a 2 game sample size.

You played FSU in game 1. After week 1, you were ranked 72. Allowing 133

You played southern and your average allowed actually increased to 165 yards average.

You allowed Southern 200 plus yards on the ground...

Southern..

200 rushing yards

None of that matters.

It was southern. They rushed it for 200 yards.

Second, what you stated is not true.

In the 1st half:

1st & 10 at SOU 22

(11:30 - 2nd) Besean McCray run for 4 yds to the Sthrn 26
2nd & 6 at SOU 26

(11:30 - 2nd) Besean McCray run for 9 yds to the Sthrn 35 for a 1ST down
1st & 10 at SOU 35

(11:30 - 2nd) Kendric Rhymes run for 4 yds to the Sthrn 39
2nd & 6 at SOU 39

(11:30 - 2nd) Kendric Rhymes run for no gain to the Sthrn 39
3rd & 6 at SOU 39

(11:30 - 2nd) Besean McCray run for 10 yds to the Sthrn 49 for a 1ST down
3rd & 6 at SOU 39

(11:30 - 2nd) Besean McCray run for 10 yds to the Sthrn 49 for a 1ST down
1st & 10 at SOU 49

(11:30 - 2nd) Jerodd Sims run for 4 yds to the LSU 47
2nd & 6 at LSU 47

(11:30 - 2nd) Jerodd Sims run for 16 yds to the LSU 31 for a 1ST down
1st & 10 at LSU 31

(11:30 - 2nd) Jerodd Sims run for 5 yds to the LSU 26..

Then:

1st & 10 at LSU 38

(5:38 - 2nd) Besean McCray run for 1 yd to the LSU 37
2nd & 9 at LSU 37

(5:38 - 2nd) Jerodd Sims run for 24 yds to the LSU 13 for a 1ST down
2nd & 9 at LSU 12

(5:38 - 2nd) Jerodd Sims run for 1 yd to the LSU 11

So they had about 100 yards of offense and 0 points in the first half? And you watched that and that was your takeaway? Because they had one drive where they got more than one 1st down? Ok

UFs rush defense will get a lot better than that. That Utah QB scrambling for 90+ yards has it low right now.

1- The title and the thread is about run defenses.

2- This was not the 2010s Bama team you played. It's SOUTHERN.

A little early in the year for rankings of any kind to mean much.

Sorry this means nothing.
