LSU Fans,

Do you think Coach O has demonstrated the ability to field a team that can punch above its weight? I think this will be a key factor in who wins the SEC next year.

LSU was outright better than every team it played this year. I don't think that will be the case this year, but I also think their only real competition for the conference title will be Alabama and maybe Auburn as a dark horse candidate.
MSU, UMiss, Ark all have new coaches who won't be able to pull off a division win.
A&M is a loser program with a loser coach and the most embarrassing AD hire in the history of college athletics, so they're definitely not in contention.

The east is about to enter a 5+ year championship drought, so the the race for the west will be all that matters.

I think LSU has a legitimate shot again this season, but if O can't pull off a win against a more talented team, he won't have a shot against Bama (or Auburn if it's one of those random up years for Gus).

I haven't payed much attention to O-led LSU except for this past season, do y'all think he can pull it off?

Same as the previous two offseasons, if the offense can come together, it will be a special team. The talent is there. How will Ensminger adjust with no Brady? How much progress will Brennan make getting all the reps with the 1s? Will Orgeron trust the offense in 2020 like he did in 2019 or will he revert back to 2017 and 2018?

LSU will be better than every team that they play this year (going by on roster talent) minus one, or two if you count UF. He will almost never have to punch up, and even last year, Bama had more talent on roster than LSU did, yet O punched up

No one thought that LSU would be nearly as good as they were this year, let alone win the West, so who knows

I'm not sure I buy this. Bama was outplayed that entire game.
Not sure if Bama had a lot of injuries at that point, but LSU definitely had more on-field talent come gametime.

I mean, it's debatable, but recruiting rankings and NFL draft boards say otherwise. At best it was equal talent, but Saban until very, very recently has had no equal

Not doubting the talent. Was more asking the fanbase's honest opinion on coaching.
I know O-led LSU had some frustrating losses before last season. Were those losses due to a coaching deficiency, talent deficit, or other now-non-existent issues?

Clearly something was fixed this last season. If coaching has improved, I don't think the step back in talent will be as big of a hit - especially with the state of the league going into next season. I might even go as far as to say that LSU has the best shot of winning it all.

I don't think Saban has run out of gas yet, however, so O and his coaching staff will need to be on their A-game.

I think Coach O had a little trouble adjusting from the interim role to the pressures of the full time role and just made some bad hires. It caused him to coach tight and too conservative. This past year, he trusted the staff completely and let them do their thing and we saw more of the interim Coach O that was aggressive and much more comfortable. I think that confidence rubbed off on the team.

To answer your question, we should be better than any team we play next season, so it’s more an issue if sustaining success.

But this is the real gem in your post. Bravo.

I'd say he did that in 2018 against Georgia.

Strictly from an outsider's perspective, i.e. no team sources, it seems every time he's made a mistake ( Canada for one) he's corrected it for the betterment of the team. He saw his offense get shut down by bama 2 yrs ago, discussed with Coach E, and went to the spread the next season. I can see no way he goes back to LSU's old offense after this season's success, no Brady or otherwise.

The offense will be just fine. Defense is the main concern. Especially the LB core.

And IMO the defense will be fine with Pelini and the athletes we have. Guess we will be just fine then.

They were flat out, out coached as well. It was a 12 point game with 15 seconds left on the clock but it should have been 21.

After the Troy loss coach o has been as good as any coach in the country .

The results show that, his record against top 10 teams is phenomenal, his record against top ten teams not named bama, is perfect.
