You sit there jerking your dick at the mere suggestion of problems within the UT athletic department, and it's transparent and pathetic.

Vols are in BXII for rowing, that conference has had their share of rape issues lately.

I understand what you're saying, but the only way the PC mania will ever stop is if people stand up and say no, we're not going to cower in the corner (and write big checks) simply because someone said we're bad. We're going to fight for our name.

That's all well and good, but it's not necessarily up to these folks whether or not they write big checks. It's fine to publicly declare your pride in your school and your belief that you're handling accusations properly. But you have to also understand that every public statement isn't simply going to be picked apart by the press, it's going to get picked apart by lawyers.

Here's a hypothetical:

"Your Honor, even the female head coaches at the University of Tennessee know that there is a culture of indifference toward sexual assault victims. These ladies stood in front of the media and made it known that they tell their charges not to go out alone late at night! The pervasive culture of rape is so thick in Knoxville that these women can't feel safe walking the streets after dark! So it's on them to stay in and hunker down, because the school isn't going to do anything to protect them."

That "nothing good happens after midnight" is solid advice for all college students is irrelevant. The message got away from some of the coaches, and that's a problem.

That's the only problem I had with this press conference. I want a better explanation for his absence other than "he was out of town".

Ya, I would be pissed as well if Arkansas had something like this and all the coaches were there except Jeff Long. You guys deserve an explanation.

Every female student at every university is told not to go out alone at night. It's not some unique advice only given to female athletes at the University of Tennessee. What the frick are you talking about?

There are just short of 100 lawyers working within 150' and 5 floors from where I'm typing this and I work with them every single day and go to court with them on a regular basis. I also regularly capture press conferences and other media appearances made by the opposing side. I've got a REALLY good idea what they do with it.

Those are only useful if their statements aren't supported by the evidence and even then their usefulness is very limited because unlike sworn statements or actual testimony, they aren't under oath. You're seriously confusing what media commentators say about public comments and their actual usefulness.

Personally I think its horseshite as well, for the most part, but UT just made it worse on themselves with that painfully odd press conference where the top rep of the athletics department was not even in attendance.

I live here in TN, so I'm aware that reading is difficult for many of my statesmen. But you seem capable of comprehending at least a portion of what I've written. Are you simply too lazy to read to the end? Or is it that your stupid knee-jerk reaction is so strong that you can't bring yourself to finish a few short sentences before hitting "reply" and spouting off like some red-faced dumbass?

Butch said exactly what he needed to say, for once, very rare when he talks to the press and offers anything but coach speak babble.

Should an amended complaint be filed, I'm willing to bet that today's presser is mentioned.

That's very strange. You'd think he'd be on the first flight back to be there.

I would like to know whose idea it was to have this press conference. The football team seems to be the one responsible for all of the bad press and headlines, so it wouldn't be surprising if Butch asked the other coaches to join him in this to show a united front. Those other coaches could have easily just said this is a UT football problem, not the university or athletic department.

They can mention that Chewbacca is from Kashyyyk and it would have as much bearing on the facts of the case.

FWIW from reading the Vol 247 & Volnation sites, most of the posters there seem to think that Cheek & Hart were not there cause they are going to be thrown under the bus & fired by the big money movers & shakers to placate all the "buzzards" circling the school & AD...
