Maybe, maybe not. I hope not. What we do know for a fact is that LSU usually doesn’t with an 8 game SEC schedule.

LSU did it last year

The subject of this thread and your post is future OOC opponents.

Correct. Alabama currently has two P4 OOC opponents scheduled each of the next 10 seasons. LSU has one. It was your fellow Tiger who asked to see the teams.

For an old timer, it’s crazy to see Tennessee so low. There was a time in the 80’s that they played awesome out-of-conference games

As a Vol fan, I 100% agree. That being said, Nebraska did dump their scheduled games vs Tennessee in 2026 and 2027. Fortunately, they were able to replace them with Georgia Tech...or the numbers would have been even lower.

Also, I don't see any games scheduled for UT beyond 2030...so their may still be some out there in the near future for those 2031-2034 schedules.

If you look at apples to apples for UT to other SEC schools ( it would be Power 4 opponents scheduled through 2030), they fall in the middle of the pack. Some of the numbers for these programs at the top of the list are pretty crazy (especially Bama, who doesn't have an in-state Power 4 OOC Option):

Power 4 Opponents 2025 - 2030

Georgia - 13
Alabama - 12
South Carolina - 11
Florida - 10
LSU - 7
Kentucky - 6
Miss St - 6
MIZZOU - 6
Oklahoma - 6
Tennessee - 6
Texas - 5
aTm - 5 (no OOC games scheduled for 2030 yet)
Arkansas - 4
Auburn - 4
Vandy - 3
Ole Miss - 1

Auburn, for instance, has 2 games scheduled for 2027 and 1 for 2028-2030. I'd imagine they are waiting to see how conferences and things change. I'd be shocked if they just didn't schedule a P4 opponent in 2027, 2028, 2031, 2032, 2033, 2034. It's not like Indiana's who has scheduled out years with 0 P4 teams.

Auburn rarely schedules its OOC games more than a couple seasons in advance.

Yeah i misread your post and I edited mine.
At least half of Bama and Georgia’s future opponents are going to be canceled or rescheduled.

SO Texas playing OSU in their house this year is the same as Auburn playing at Baylor the same day based on your logic?

I remember Alabama having some great OOC games in the 80's as well.

In '86 they had: Ohio State, Notre Dame, Memphis, Penn State, and Temple in the regular season. I'd love to see that start happening again.

True...Florida State is different because they've never played against Texas in football. The other two are .500 (each) vs the Longhorns.

Ole Miss with 3 and Auburn with 4 is pretty wild.

Auburn and UCLA were schedule for a home and home in 2027/2028, but the series was cancelled when UCLA joined the Big 10.

I’m guessing this late in the game, we’re looking at likely playing in some neutral site games to kick off the 2027 and 2028 seasons.

The teams with openings in their OOC schedules AND who are not already booked to play an OOC Power 4 opponent that season or booked to play any OOC road games are these:

2027: USC, Virginia
2028: Indiana, Iowa, Iowa St., Michigan, Rutgers, USC

If I was a better, I would bet we end up playing Virginia in 2027 in either Atlanta or Charlotte.

2028 has more options. I wish our AD would book us an OOC neutral game against Michigan in either Chicago, Indy, or Nashville…. But if I had to bet I would first guess USC in Dallas.

In 2029/2030 we start a home-and-home with Miami.

The ‘80s were great for OOC matchups… partly due to the fact conferences were smaller so you played less conference games.

In 1983, Auburn played Texas, Georgia Tech, Florida State, and Maryland in the regular season…. On top of playing Alabama, Georgia, Florida, and Tennessee in SEC play. Just a brutal schedule but still went 10-1.

we could use a break for a second.

FSU twice, USC, and now Clemson twice is all the Power 4 one could hope for.

Was basically last years schedule for GA

Opened with Clemson, then Texas, Bama, Ole Miss on the road and ending with GT.

Yes it is a step up, and the data presented is better than nothing but bucketing every P4 program into a bucket and claiming that CFP teams are scheduling P4 opponents OOC needs to be dug into deeper. Look at Mizzoo schedule, yes they are scheduling P4 teams but they are teams that will not be very good.

There is a SOS analytics guide (I forget which one) that makes a team playing the # 1 and #49 teams the same as playing the #24 and #26 teams. IMO thats silly and very poor way to look at strength of scheduling;

I think the Arizona State vs. LSU is the reboot of the reboot of the mid 2000's series that got fricked up by Katrina.

That was supposed to be @LSU but hurricane bad. The 05 game went to Tempe, but proceeds went to Katrina relief. It was a classic too. ASU more or less dominated, but LSU got back into it with special teams and then Russell hit a 4th and a prayer from the 40* or so with a buck and change left.

*Early Doucet dropped it but replay was in its infancy and call on the field was TD. ASU fans would have bitched about it, but you can't because, y'know. Hurricane. Who's gonna grump about a bad call?

Then because LSU didn't get their scheduled home game and ASU didn't get to profit from its abrupt home game, things got moved around. And moved around. And moved around. I've been looking forward to an ASU vs. LSU game for a very long time. Games just kept getting punted down the road.

Florida vs. ASU also seems like a really fun time. I didn't know we had that scheduled. I am to understand that you Gator fans enjoy cocktail parties. ASU fans are also known for partaking in such activities.
