The regular season should be the playoffs. Bring back the BCS.

Don't think the current system that leaves out a power 5 champion can continue. I'd be OK with 6 with a play in game for the lowest rank champion and an at large team.

I say we reverse conference expansion and add two teams to the playoffs.

The four who made it were fine.

The point is blue bloods like Alabama will always get the benefit of doubt based on reputation. Expanding the field will reveal if their inclusion on a year-to-year basis is justified.

Letting the process play out on the field is the American way.

Only change they should make is going to 6 teams. Give 1 & 2 a bye. It preserves the college game with "every game matters" and gives them all a reason to play for # 1 or 2.
Personally, I don't think anyone finishing 7 or lower doesn't deserve a chance to play for the tittle.

Eight would be the ideal number. It would allow some fresh blood into the process. Traditional powers always get the benefit of the doubt and waved through. Let them earn it for a change.
Clemson is fresh blood.

Who didn't earn it this year?

Every team that didn't make it has only themselves to blame.

If you expand to 8 teams, you have several 2 loss teams in there every year. It cheapens the regular season immensely. Expanding it is a terrible idea.

My only real problem with the playoff is how they packaged it as being for the fans. The fans were way down the list of the people they tried to appease with this system, otherwise they'd have ditched the bowl tie-ins and made ticket prices much more reasonable. Add to it the 2 semifinal games being on NYE this year, and it's plainly clear this was just another money grab by the bowl games and the NCAA.

I think the committee did an outstanding job this year with their top 4. I guess they did last year, though Ohio State jumping to #4 was predictable given their brand and the eyes they'd bring to the table over TCU and Baylor. Hard to disagree with them being top 4 since they won it all though.

+1

If a "blueblood" is kicking arse, then they deserve to be there just like a non-blueblood >>> Clemson.

Bowl Season is a joke

If you aren't one of the 4 who cares

I wonder how TV ratings are doing.

They do very well ratings wise and profit enough to keep making more bowls. Just because you don't like/understand college football enough to watch the bowls doesn't make them unpopular or a bad idea. They give minor teams a chance to take home a trophy and be winners on national television. The players care about them quite a bit.

Yep. If this were for the fans, either the games wouldn't be on NYE or face value for the National Championship Game wouldn't be $650. It is shameful that a College Football Playoff game started while a majority of the country was still at work.

I still can't get over the decision to have games on New Year's Eve. What an awful decision that was made only to cater to a few gray haired bowl reps.

Wow. I didn't even know that. Is College Basketball this bad with regards to the Final Four?

If we are going to cater to the Rose and Sugar Bowls and schedule everything around them, then just go ahead and make them the permanent semi-final games and have the championship rotate among the other bowl games. At least with that, the process is concrete and the games at least take place on the best possible day.

Its still funny to me that the Rose/Sugar will let the NFL have Jan 1. when its a Sunday but they stand behind "Tradition" when people want them to take a backseat to the Playoff.

Top 4 would have been the same this year.

Getting there would not have been as convoluted as the "committee" makes it out to be. They contradict themselves over and over throughout the process.

I think a good compromise is a 6 team playoff with the top two teams given byes.

First round:

3rd vs 6th
4th vs 5th

Second round:

Winner of 3rd vs 6th vs 1st
Winner of 4th vs 5th vs 2nd

Third round:

Championship game

That or go to 8 and reduce the regular season to 10 games.
