Would you argue THC makes you lazy? As in more likely to miss class, mandatory meetings, or not perform to standards in practice.

Which is more likely? A player do any of those things because of smoking weed or because of drinking alcohol? Because all of those things can be applied to alcohol.

How about instead of the NCAA and the law holding their hands, let them make their own mistakes and face the consequences. Contrary to popular belief, you can smoke responsibly just like you can drink responsibly.

So I guess testing should still be a thing. But only if you are impaired while performing your job.

It appears the NCAA isn’t only concerned about impairment.
This graphic (sorry about the size; it’s their image) mentions mental and respiratory effects as well.
For the record, I have no dog in this fight, though I am 100% pro the legalization of marijuana.

Well yeah, we all know that it's banned by the NCAA. The entire point of the thread is to discuss whether or not we think it should remain that way.

I do not.

We have been hearing for decades the establishment shpiel about how bad it is, but they have been proven wrong every step of the way.

My personal opinion is that its benefits far outweigh its negatives (which are greatly exaggerated or non-existent to begin with).

We disagree on the thread’s premise.

I'm not talking about getting caught with marijuana on their possession, simply testing positive for it on a drug test.

What disciplinary action would you say they deserve, if any?

Ah. You're right.

My bad. I guess what I should say is that I would suggest the NCAA move to remove it from the banned substance list.

personally i think the entire experience would be better if everyone was smoking herbs including coaches and everyone in football operations. There would be triple option flea flickers. The play calling would be incredible. The intro music would be absurd. Concessions would be better than they have ever been. Experience would be much better.

Agreed on everything.

Double reverse flea flicker. I would absolutely run that shite.

I know it's yesterday's news,

But I'm bumping this because Patrick being sent to rehab over marijuana and missing the playoffs is asinine

Yeah it's ridiculous.

I don't think players should be tested but since they are I think each conference should have the same rules for every school. I'm tired of seeing LSU suspend players for half the season for weed while players like Tum Williams are failing tests every week at Bama.

the people that should be held responsible are legislators that keep it illegal meanwhile there are kids with Dravit's syndrome in states where it is illegal dying. That is unacceptable in America. The seizures eventually cause their brain to stop functioning and they die. For all we know cannabis could help prevent CTE. It does have neuroprotectant properties (both THC and CBD). To be against legalizing is akin to supporting the termination of children's lives and not caring about CTE or the future of football.

If you don’t test for the marijuanas then soon kids will be listening to that jazz music and hanging out in pool halls. We have to keep up the fight!

I've never heard of anybody smoking a bowl and it increasing their performance on the field of play. Therefore, weed is not a P.E.D.

No cares about "the weed".

And that’s fine—but it’s a different discussion.
At present, marijuana is an NCAA-banned substance.
Don’t like it? Don’t play NCAA sports.
I mean thats the point, shouldnt we fight to change it instead of just accepting it "thats the rule so follow it!" mentality?

Hell, if we simply did that we wouldnt have black players playing football

I wouldn't mind testing for it if they were mouth swab tests. Those have a detection time of up to 72 hours at the most. For some it's around 24 hours.

As opposed to 30 days for a piss test.

I have always maintained that if hard liquor is legal then pot should be to. I will never be convinced that someone can go buy a half gallon of liquor and drink theirself pretty much to death and that's all fine and legal but someone taking a few hits off of a joint is wrong. That's assinine beyond belief

They shouldn't even bother testing for it, until someone comes up with a way to determine intoxication. I also believe most users, if given a chance, would get turned on to ingestion as the main route of administration in lieu of possibly damaging their lungs with heavy smoking.
