people still use the "they get a free education" argument?

Well, dont they? Would 90 percent of these kids get a degree without a football scholarship and the resources they have at their university?

You can't use that without an alternative for getting to the NFL.

Sure I can. Its the only way to get into the NFL.

Do you have a problem with projected early-round juniors entering the draft early? Also a bowl game is an extra game at the end of the season. It's not planned or guaranteed.

Then why do we have them? Also, if they arent important, why do coaches get bonuses and millions of dollars are made from them?

The "gifts and privileges" comment doesn't even deserve a response, but here you go.

Thanks CNB. I appreciate your attention and reply :muwah:

if they're good enough to sit out in order to protect their draft status, I'd say they already earned it.

Plus, the student athlete has no other path to their career choice in the NFL. They literally had to go to college. Why are you supporting the bourgeoisie against the struggling proletariat student-athlete?

But who determines this? And why dont all draft eligible players sit out then?

Part of the game. I am not the one who makes the rules, but someone who believes they should play with their team. What if they sit out and someone who isnt going to the NFL gets hurt because they are carrying their load? Is that fair? #selfish.

Stupid example, really. Jaylon Smith didn't declare for the NFL until AFTER he blew out his knee.

I know tRant loves a team vote, but these guys really do owe it to their teammates to at least ask. If the guys you were recruited with and lost blood with think you shouldn't risk it then sit the game out. If the teammates look at it as quitting on them then the player owes them the respect of playing hard in that game. IMHO

Thanks for debating. You know I'll argue any side just to argue

What difference does that make? Everyone knew he was going pro.

In Deebo's case his entire career outside of this past season was riddled with injuries that have already had an effect on his draft stock. Why on Earth would he risk any and all hope of achieving his dream for a bowl game that is essentially meaningless?

The risk is higher than the reward of winning the fricking Belk Bowl. Come on. If he feels comfortable with the decision that's really all that matters.

Muschamp actually recommended he skip bc he understands the ramifications of injury and the blatant difference in participating in a CFB bowl game vs a career in the NFL. Obviously the welfare of his players is far more important to him than any bonus money he could earn.

Screw the coaches bonus. That $100k is pennies to their overall salary. I’d tell the coach sorry but I’m not risking it.

If I’m a first round draft pick playing in anything less than a New Years 6 bowl I’m sitting out.

The way you fix this is by rewarding teams and taking off all redshirts for the bowl games. Let the new kids get playing time as a reward and not go against the eligibility.

They'll say that the 4 game rule already does this, imo.

Maybe add transfers too? IDK I just think bowl games should be a true bonus. It would be cool to see some of these transfers get some game experience after sitting a year.

Bad troll.

We've had 7 first round draft picks since joining the SEC (6 NFL drafts). I realize that isn't as much as other teams, but we have the talent going first round. And they still play their bowl games.

Luke Joeckel '13
Jake Matthews '14
Mike Evans '14
Johnny Manziel '14
Cedric Ogbuehi '15
Germain Ifedi '16
Myles Garrett '17

You'r either intellectually dishonest or a moron.

Wasn't aware they were Professionals yet. How much did they get paid during the minimum time they have to be a student athlete?

Exactly, they're not professionals. They're getting what's necessary to set them up for their careers. Unless the Jimmy's Fish and Tackle Bowl is going to further that goal, only an idiot would play.

When you haven't played for a championship in a century bowl games are a big deal.
