Every conference pays in a percentage of their profit. Every D1 player gets a cut with bonuses for starting. Every player gets paid, and there's no recruiting advantages.

While we're at it, salary caps for coaches.

The last salary year I could find for Sam Pittman was $3.75 million. Do you think he's coaching at Arkansas because he just loves Fayetteville so much ? Honestly, the hypocrisy of coaches with two commas in their yearly salary, pissing and moaning about players only doing it for the money, gets pretty old.

Pittman had some credibility on this when he was the lowest paid coach in the league but last year he hired sexton and got his salary doubled. I’m sure sexton made threats about Pittman leaving so he could cash in. Ultimate hypocrisy.

I can get behind this. The P5 ADs/presidents/conference commissioners need to hold a meeting somewhere and hash all of this out. Let the players get a percentage of these multi-billion-dollar television deals as well as royalties from jersey sales and autograph sessions.

As much as I love Saban, a football coach should not be the highest paid public official in the state.

Let them build their own stadiums and areas. They are not shite without the University's money.

BB and Football will be like G-league and minor league baseball.

Let the NBA and NFL start their own farm systems

NCAA should ban all athletic scholarships and let them pay their way with their NIL monies.

If universities and the NCAA would stop trying to funnel a minor league football league through their hands for money, the capitalist system would work all this out.

What a fricking pathetic attempt at a point.

Where do you work? Did you build the office you work out of? Do you fund the business and cover the expenses? Did you yourself build the client base? Did you develop the product? Did you purchase and fund the overseas factory that produces whatever trinket you're selling?

No? Then what is your fricking point? It's always comical to me how your everyday-joe who is happily paid MONEY to go into a workplace where everything is provided for him to do the job all of a sudden wants to pretend that an athlete should play for free because "they didn't build the stadium".

The players are literally the TALENT and the PRODUCT. Arkansas isn't raking in tens of millions of dollars every year in TV revenue alone because people like to watch watch Sam Pittman's fat greasy-headed arse on the sidelines every Saturday.

For the retards on here: this is a sport where HIGH SCHOOL coaches are raking in six-figure per year salaries. HIGH SCHOOL. Some of them make several HUNDRED THOUSAND per year. There are HIGH SCHOOLS that field million-dollar football stadiums. Can you explain that to me? Why is your high school paying a football coach that salary?

But please tell me how the actual players that power this MULTI BILLION dollar industry are fairly compensated by their sChOlArshIp? What, they get to work out for free in a fancy training facility and that about covers their compensation LOL?

If you think that that their scholarship is "fair payment", how would you feel if your employer started compensating you in gift-cards and vouchers for online courses lmao? Don't worry, they'll throw in a free membership to the fancy gym in the building!

NIL and the Transfer Portal will normalize and become settled over time like everything else. Just because this stuff is the Wild West right now, it doesn't conclude that finally paying the players is a mistake. That's a brainless conclusion.

What, it's not fair that a player comes to your school and then leaves a year later because someone else gives them more money? Isn't that what coaches do every year? They even recruit players, have them sign under the guise of being "their coach", and then leave for a high paying job the day after signing day lmao. These grifters have such inflated value that their contracts are even structured such that they get paid tens of millions just to be fired for complete incompetence. But don't worry, the sport is ruined because the players want to get paid for the actual work that is done hahaha. Good one!

He hired Sexton and got lazy. Arkansas was in the top 20 in the beginning of this year but finished 6-6. I think 9-4 got him the big head and he doesn't know how to walk slowly and carry a big stick.

The last thing hog fans want to hear is his bitching about the current ordeals and try to adapt to the changes that are happening in college football today. Adapt or get left behind.

More trades and less player loyalty than the NFL.

It's worst-case scenario for the sport.

Root for guys one season, the very next season they're on another team in your division. Its cray.

One name for u
ED O’BANNON

he kicked this all off when he took his case to the Supreme Court. Not only did they rule in his favor but said you could stop someone from earning money. The govt had stayed out of college athletics for a century but when they got back in it was over.
Ed O’Bannon is the reason for NIL and the transfer portal.

If you mean our program, then yes.

Then put it to the test, Clark14. Cut the money you send to the PitBoss down to, say, an even million. Still more money than many folks will make in a lifetime.

Watch how long he stays. Or, better yet, watch how quick he leaves.

As opposed to what ? The ADs ? The coaches ? Everybody else involved that's making money hand over fist ?

You pay coaches now just to not work. And then brag to high heavens about how much more the next coach is getting paid ... because this time he's the real deal.

Yeah - you're right. Those kids should have to stick for four years, keep their mouths shut, and pop pads while getting that incredibly valuable communications degree. Eat whatever is on the training table. Turn down the hundred dollar handshake. Its for the best.

For the best for folks here that really like their TV entertainment, with a side of nostalgia.

Pittman on NIL " I still don't believe in buying players.. I want players to want to come to the University... it's heading to a disturbing place."

Total bullshite.

First of all, instead of paying college coaches millions of dollars, pay them what deans make. Start there. Coaching a fricking sport has little Real World importance. (Hell, high school coaches have a bigger influence in shaping young lives.) It pays so well only because fans care too damn much about it. That’s where the problem starts: excessive interest in whose alma mater wins a fricking football game. Don’t blame the kids for cashing in on a “problem” you caused.

Second, I know paying college players has been discussed for decades. However, it’s a different world in 2022 than 1982. Tons of young adults are making bank off of IG, TikTok, YouTube, OF, etc. Social media and the Internet have changed the game. Young adults have a lot more power and influence than they used to because they don’t need the older generation to open doors for them. Hot women no longer need a Hugh Hefner, and tech prodigies don’t need a Steve Jobs. They can go directly to consumers.

Third, the talent and work required to be a Power 5 standout is a hell of a lot rarer than just about any profession. Those guys should be able to cash in on that however they can - and there are a lot of more ways to do it nowadays than when most of us were their age.

Four, if the players weren’t worth the NIL money, people wouldn’t pay it to them. Simple capitalism. If people have such a hard-on for education, etc., then don’t bother with the NIL stuff and get your arse kicked every week. Regular students are still going to get their law and engineering degrees either way.

You guys put these players up on a pedestal and they’re taking advantage of it. It’s your fault. You’re like a simp who keep showering a hot woman with gifts and attention that she will take all day - but is never going to love you back.

You don’t like NIL? Show some dignity and walk away. Stop watching and attending games until the sport goes back to having some semblance of amateurism. But if you’re going to keep watching no matter how disgusted you are by it, then blame yourselves.

This. It was the same when Bryant was coach. Tells you a lot about the shallow-mindedness that is rampant in the state.

Dumb take, quit acting like Pit is making anything but the league average, and it's heavily skewed towards performance in wins and losses. Also has ZERO BUYOUT, ZERO! You literally couldn't ask for a better contract from the school's perspective, you can triple his contract and be saving when there's no buyout. Work on your critical thinking skills or maybe math.

Imagine the NFL with no draft, no salary cap and no contracts. This is college football today.

It will end up with a few teams getting all the talent. And, if anyone happens to blossom and develope they will get snatched up and be gone. Good for them but fans will stop going to games, cheering and supporting a team if there is never any hope of having a good season.

I picture a scenario where those that can’t compete stop investing in football because lack of fan interest leads to lost revenue. More schools will start dropping football to lower divisions because they can’t compete. Maybe that’s what needs to happen anyway.
