Why would you let the same safety keep getting burned by the same WR you might ask?????? Well, that's one of the reasons everyone wants our DC to be fired.

not being facetious at all, genuinely curious. I konw it's well documented the ire of the fanbase towards golding, but regarding the quoted question above, why would saban not intervene? Whenit became clear that it was one specific matchup being exploited over and over why wouldnt' the HC overrule the DC and basically say "idc what else happens as a result but fix this shite"

I honestly don't know, but I think it confirms what he used to say a whole lot when Kirby was here - he gives his DCs a whole lot of autonomy in game planning and play calling. He has a very specific structure for how he wants his defense (and offense for that matter) to look, but he lets his coordinators coordinate. He was always pretty adamant when people would insinuate that Kirby just stood there and Saban actually ran the defense that Kirby was almost entirely in charge of the operational stuff on defense. I'd imagine it's been the same with Pete (and was the same with Pruitt).

However, at some point it's his job to step in (like he's done with OCs before) and tell him to make a fvckin change. And I'm guessing 2012 Saban would have had no problem doing that, but 2022 Saban isn't the same guy in terms of confrontation and quick fuse.

Not having Emmanuel Forbes at CB is bullshite.

Thrown at 15 times and had 6 interceptions and allowed 3 receptions.

3 interceptions were pick 6

The reason so many people think that D hasn't played up to their standard is mainly due to secondary issues. Two of three players on their list are in the secondary.

That’s fair, but Mckinstry was lock down all year and Branch has one of the highest tackle grades in the country. They grade more than man coverage. Hellams and Arnold were the two that got abused in the spotlight

Had a 86.0 PFF grade (1st in SEC) compared to McKinstry's 81.0 PFF grade (6th in SEC)

No idea why they went with McKinstry over Forbes

Seems like McKinstry should have been 3rd team All-SEC based on their own grading system and certainly not all american.

No, so many think it's because of Golding.

Hopefully, rumors are true, and he is sent packing

Will Anderson certainly did not have as good of a year this year as last, but he was still tops in the SEC in Sacks, tied with Sanders, and was first in QB hurries and pressures, and was near the top in the country at both, while constantly being double teamed, etc. What some people do not realize that do not know football is he is one of the few players in CFB that the other teams have to scheme against because if they do not he will win the mathcup most of the time.

Jalen Carter missed over 1/3 of the season. I’m not sure why we’re upset about this.

Not true.

The individual players are great.

The scheme gets exploited.

And Alabama has nearly the best passing defense stats in the country so idk what you’re getting at there.

I guess when you have a moronic DC letting the opposing team's OC abuse a certain matchup all day, it is not so hard to happen. I'm sorry if you are having a hard time with this and how it works but a subpar DC and easily exploited teammates can negate almost any player.

Don't have a hard time with anything and understand what PFF does.

To me, the problem with it after listening to a few explain it, it doesn't really take into account huge plays enough. Example, a guy who is where he's supposed to be on all plays, good but not dominant, will get a higher score than a guy who blows up a couple of plays a game, forces turnovers, etc., but also gets beat a couple of times or takes the wrong angle allowing an extra five yards a couple of times.

Pff grades are not reliable.

Not sure what kind of staff these guys have but it is very possible.
But to watch every play essentially 22 times to grade each player, and that’s if you don’t spend any significant time actually breaking down each play, just seems never ending. I’d imagine certain graders only grade certain positions. All in all it just seems like a flawed system that is impossible to do the right way without just browsing through film lazily
