Some substantial silliness on these boards regarding one Blake Baker. Can we all agree.?.?.

1. Baker is a good Coach.
2. Baker left Mizzou. He previously left LSU. In the future, possibly near, he'll leave LSU again.
3. Good programs lose good assistants for a variety of reasons. The better the program, the more coveted the assistants.
4. Drink, like all successful coaches, knew losing assistants was possible and certainly has a list of potential replacements.
5. If Baker has success at LSU, a HC position will be available sooner, rather than later.

I wish Baker nothing but success. Good luck, young man! And good luck to LSU...despite a few juveniles who post here, it's a good school & program with great fans!

Overall, good post, though.

Yea, I mean. I've had a chance to sleep on it and while I am bummed that we lost him to LSU. I do wish him and his family nothing but the best.

Some perspective as well is always good:

1. Baker is good, but his defense was not even in the top 25 nationally. He came in at 33.

2. Baker was previously relieved from two other jobs for less than stellar performances. (Louisiana Tech & Miami)

3. There is more to a football team than a single guy calling plays. Yes, I am sure he was impactful, but he is also only as good as the players on the field and their ability to perform his vision.

4. We can use that 1m that LSU is now going to pay us and go after someone who quite possibly will be better than Baker.

The only thing at stake in this situation is school pride. Nothing else. We don’t like losing a coach to another SEC school because it’s a kick in the nuts. Otherwise it is inconsequential.

Yes, this.

Many in our fan base were unhappy when he wasn’t retained two years ago, because he did a great job with our linebackers. But the new DC was a linebackers coach, so…

He did a great job with Mizzou and Mizzou had a great season and seems poised to have another great season next year.

LSU NEEDS this. Some energy and a good coach, cause Matt House was just incredibly and surprisingly awful. Our entire defense seemed to have poor technique, poor leverage, took poor angles and we didn’t seem to disguise anything. That’s not LSU football.

Baker has a challenge on his hands to turn this shite around

You were a .500 team until you let a different guy call plays. A single guy calling plays can make all the difference in the world.

Well, I will agree partially. Yes, school pride took one on the chin with this. There certainly will be a worry about him poaching recruits or other staff members. So there could be numerous thinks at stake.

Let's just hope he doesn't take our playbook like one of our former coordinators and share it with multiple different schools.

Imagine being another DC and hearing mizzou is willing to pay 2.5 with low expectations.

Mizzou will find another DC. Assistants come and go, and the mark of a great coach is their ability to consistently fill that void.

Even with the school pride thing, if Missouri fans would have been rational about the rumors, there would have been less pride involved. It’s just big time CFB.

Our defense is likely to take a step back with losing two CBs, a LB and at least one DL to the draft. The new DCs job will be to maximize the talent we have, get the young guys involved and recruit some more studs.

Regardless of your knowledge it was a mistake to fire Baker in the first place. Kudos to Kelly for correcting the mistake!

You're not wrong. Our defense was probably going to take a step back anyway with the talent we're losing to the NFL. Might be an ideal time for a new DC to come in and shake some stuff up and try some different things out.

Have a feeling this might be like some of our B12 days where we rely on our offense to just outscore the other team and hope our defense can throw in some stops from time-to-time.

thank you for this. I don't get the pure hatred from some fans.

Nearly this exact thing happened to LSU just a couple of weeks ago when our OC took a job at ND for a little more pay(I'm sure LSU would have matched).

But why did he really go? He has family ties to that area and wanted to go home. Pretty much a mirror situation to Baker.

This is all true but some LSU posters feel they need trash the Mizzou program and some Mizzou posters feel they need to trash Baker/LSU.

He has a close relationship with Drink...can't really see that happening.

I don't think he made it past 6th grade, so cut him some slack.
