Perfect Game AA

Preseason Two-Way Player of the Year: Jac Caglianone, TWP, Florida
Arguably the biggest story in the sport a year ago was the emergence of Caglianone for the Gators, who frequently drew comparisons to Shohei Ohtani and is our pick for Two-Way Player of the Year. Caglianone has a couple of 80 grade tools on the card, his power and his fastball. It’s light-tower power as he crushed 33 homers last year and his BP is must-watch TV while the heater will touch triple digits at times. He’s a unicorn in college baseball and the Gators’ two-way star is the only returning Golden Spikes finalist in the sport.

First Team Hitters (SEC Only)

Third Base: Tommy White, LSU
Tommy Tanks became a household name in his true freshman season at NC State, and he followed up that campaign with a 100+ RBI season and a national championship for LSU. Power is the calling card here and White is among the nation’s best longball artists, launching 24 in 2023 to give him 51 for his career. White is an electric hitter when he’s on a hot streak and the likely first-rounder will look to lead LSU back to another title in 2024.

Outfield: Braden Montgomery, Texas A&M
If Chase Burns was the biggest name in the transfer portal then Braden Montgomery is probably on equal footing, as he shockingly departed Stanford and will be spending his draft year in College Station. Montgomery has a silky smooth swing from both sides of the plate and OPS’d over 1.000 with seventeen home runs for the Cardinal last year. He’s got an absolute cannon from the outfield and should pitch some too. Montgomery is another name on this list with top ten draft and Golden Spikes upside.

Outfield: Ethan Petry, South Carolina
Petry was a sensation in his true freshman campaign as a still-eighteen year old, eventually leading to Freshman of the Year honors in the process. He OPS’d north of 1.100 and crushed 23 home runs, leading the Gamecocks to the Gainesville Super Regional. Petry is a true power hitter with a big arm from right field and is one of the top prospects in the country for the 2025 MLB Draft.

Designated Hitter: Charlie Condon, Georgia
It was a breakout 2023 campaign for Condon who had a slugging percentage of .800 and crushed 25 home runs for the Bulldogs. Condon is among the nation’s most prolific power hitters, leaving the yard with consistency and frequency while the batted ball numbers are among the best in the country. He’s a likely first round pick and one that could go very early come July’s draft.

First Team Pitchers (SEC Only)

Starting Pitcher: Hagen Smith, Arkansas
Smith jumped around in terms of role a little bit for the Hogs in 2023, as Smith figures to be Arkansas’ biggest weapon on the mound in 2024. It’s electric from the left side with an upper-90s fastball and a wipeout breaking ball. The walks got a little high last year but in terms of competitiveness and overall stuff, Smith ranks among the best in the nation.

Second Team Hitters (SEC Only)
3B Billy Amick - UT
IF Colby Shelton - UF
OF Jace LaViolette - A&M

Second Team Pitchers (SEC Only)
SP Drew Beam - UT
SP Devin Futrell - VAN
SP Lebarron Johnson - tu

ThirdTeam Hitters (SEC Only)
C Cole Messina - UofSC
1B Hunter Hines - MSU
2B Christian Moore - UT

Third Team Pitchers (SEC Only)
SP Luke Holman - Lsu
RP Brandon Neely - UF

I've seen a lot of hype around him during the off-season. Apparently he was breaking into the triple digits during the fall and has added a splitter to compliment his fastball. Gotta keep those walks down, though.

Thanks Farmer!

Caglianone won't see many decent pitches to hit, so hopefully he can develop a better eye at the plate. he only had 17 walks in 319 plate appearances. Wyatt Lanford batted in front of him and had 56 walks on 303 total plate appearances, while Josh Rivera had 46 walks on 312 plate appearances hitting behind Jac.

Hopefully he can gain better control of his pitches as he was fairly wild in 2023.

Florida should easily have the best offense in the country. LSU and the Hogs probably have the best overall pitching staffs in the conference.

He had a 1.282 OPS at UF last year. Then proceeds to have a 1.157 OPS in minor league ball, but not just Rookie ball. He played in Rookie, High A, Double A, and Triple A in one damn season. And it wasn't like he dominated a weak level to inflate his AA & AAA #s. 1.280 OPS in AA & 1.157 OPS in AAA. I don't look forward to the Rangers adding another weapon.

I actually think it's host a regional, or at the very least make the regional final. Anything beyond that is just the way the ball bounces. But a good coach can get a team to that point.

Strangely enough, the OP listed #8 as Texas when he first posted it, then he apparently edited the post to say "tu" instead, but the post doesn't show up as edited..

Interesting indeed..

I really like LSU's pitching this season. A lot more depth than last year. And a freshman (Cam Johnson) who reminds me of a young CC Sabathia.

Supposedly hitting triple digits comfortably without over-exerting himself to get there or messing up his mechanics just in an effort to throw harder.

Excited about A&M baseball. This team is going to mash ... now, we just need to improve the pitching.

Time for Kentucky to shock the college baseball world again this year. We got a lot of transfers and key players back.

Even you misspelling his name can't wipe the smile off my face from the 2023 baseball season.

It was almost the perfect season for me. Only 2 things didn't happen to make it so. LSU beat the stuffing out of UF in the final game, and Langford didn't make it to the show. If those 2 things had happened, I would probably be ready to go meet my maker because it wouldn't get any better here on earth.

Yet I feel so fortunate, because UF had a great season and almost won it all. (Congrat's again to the Tigahs) Then Detroit passed on Wyatt and took the high school kid, so my fav player came to my fav MLB team. And then he proceeeded to play some great ball and move up the ranks quickly, and I think they were flirting with the idea of bringing him in, but then Mr. Carter showed up and the Rangers hitting slump went away and the rest is history.

Oh and I get goosebumps thinking about an outfield consisting of Langford, Carter and El Bombi, along with our infield. It's a scary lineup. Hopefully we can scrounge up some money somewhere so our team ERA isn't over 10.

This Razorback team is absolutely loaded with talent.

It would be a huge disappointment not to make it to Omaha.

I don't know who Eric Sorenson is, but he appears to be a moron.
