The rumors about Kelly I liken to the ones about McElwain shortly before he was fired. There are just way too many of them for there to not be some truth to it.

And, therefore, not lie. This is all part of the smokescreen theory.

What would be the legit reason you could think of to smokescreen a hire of Kelly? It's not doubt misdirection happens, but it always happens for a reason. This seems to me to be the opposite of what Gator fans want to believe. The administration has Kelly as their #1 target, but he's playing hard to get or simply does not want to coach at UF.
You have to look at this from a bigger picture. The UF situation has chewed up and spit out it's last 3 coaches, including one, in Meyer, that won 2 titles. With so many jobs coming open in the next month Kelly may be able to take his pick, and I'm not sure he holds the UF job in such high regard. Why would he, a guy not from the SE, who can win big at a place like Oregon?

The rumors about Kelly also started AFTER Spurrier gave this interview.

There’s no reason to smokescreen if you’re hiring Kelly

Franklin is a PA boy at his dream job PSU. He isn’t leaving for Florida.

There is no smokescreen from Spurrier, this was all before the Kelly to UF talk heated up. Nothing has come from UF or a UF representative since that would contradict any of the reports that Kelly is the target.

By this logic, Jon Gruden has been HC at UTk for about a month.

Should play catch up for the board, since clearly it's behind.

Spurrier said this last week. UF's primary target was Frost(just not in exact terms, but it's obvious)

Nebraska then openly claimed they would come for Frost.

Florida then sent feelers out for Kelly, just to make sure if they lose Frost, they have the offense they want.

Chip showed more interest then expected.

UF then begins vetting for Kelly. Figuring out out if he is a good fit.

UF met with Chip last night. Despite Stricklin's selfie, the plane scheduled for Conn was delayed by an hour and a half. Still made the trip around 4:15.

Basically. UF felt Frost to Nebraska was to likely. So Kelly became the primary focus. Didn't want to end up waiting till December, then not landing the guy they want and having an LSU situation.

I like Kelly more. He proved himself more in college than Frost has. Frost has upside, but there is still the pondering of how does he do with a big program. Chip we already know. He will win a ton.

Still stand by my thread. Kelly will be announced by Friday, or the press conference for his hire at worst if Stricklin delays it for some reason. The contract will be signed though. Makes sense for everyone. Home run hire for UF. Best job Kelly will get.

I want to respond, but I can't. I'm laughing too hard and can't think straight! (Not that the laughing thing has anything to do with my not being able to think straight)

There is no reason to 'smokescreen' for Chip Kelly he isn't a current coach. Defeats the purpose.

Spurrier is actually going to hurt this search, IMO, for the reason you are mentioning.

Weird statement. What does almost 100% mean? The guy he's referring to is either coaching or he's not. It's either 100% or 0%.

So it's coach O?

He's almost 100% coaching.

Spurrier is here in a fundraising capacity and has an office in the communications department that he uses sparingly. The only time he ever got involved in the program was when Mac asked him to.
