But the pear didn’t break up with LSU, they broke up with him. He didn’t just decide to leave, he was forced to leave. He is currently their fans favorite martyr. But LSU fans hate any coach that leaves them for someone else.

Big time hire. I love it.

The hate for Paul is silly. 4 trips to Omaha, a national title and a ton of wins. He didn’t end his tenure with what we would have wanted, but he was a damn good coach. I wish him the best at USC.

Obvious bridge coach.
The question is bridge to who? I mean y'all are SC, other than folks already coaching at their dream job you can get pretty much anyone in the US to take your job and take it with a smile on their face.
So who are y'all waiting for?

Ray Tanners replacement so we can have somebody competent making the hires

Agreed, PM is a hall of famer. No idea how he will do at USC, but I wish him success and have a lot of respect for PM and his career.
As long as they’re not playing LSU, I’ll certainly be rooting for him.

At least he is capped at 1.3M. Ray Tanner knows how to coach baseball and kiss arse and that is the extent of his talent.

Paul Mainieri was forced to leave too. It was one of those "you can retire gracefully or get fired." He chose the former

That makes a lot of sense.

Mainieri will bring stability to SC with the chance to take them higher than Kingston did. Like others mentioned, he had some health issues late in his career at LSU and forced him to retire (along with a relatively underperforming team). If he puts together a good staff like he seems to be doing, SC could be competing for near the top of the SEC soon. I do think he is just a bridge guy until SC finds a younger coach that fits well. The vast majority of LSU fans are supportive of him finding a new job even though it was unexpected. He’s always been supportive of LSU since he retired. I’ll be pulling for him except against LSU.

It was always my understanding that it was Mainieri’s health that really forced him to step away. Is this not correct?
That is why I was surprised to see so much venom directed towards him. You can’t hate on a man when his health causes his performance to suffer to the point he has to step away from the game. Just like you can’t hate on him for wanting to return to the game if his health has improved.

Many LSU fans have shown they don’t do well when LSU coaches move on to other programs: Saban, Murphy, Johnson, and now Mainiero are examples.
This is that. Are some individuals being idiots? Sure. But the vast majority of lsu fans don’t care he is heading to USCe
