I met her one time by chance walking to church in Knoxville about eight or nine years ago. She was walking with Tyler and they came by right as we were getting out of the car. We said Hello to her and chatted briefly. I was struck by how soft spoken and humble she seemed after watching her coach all of these years. I went to La Tech when they were a powerhouse in the Eighties and when the Lady Vols came to Ruston it was intense. I can remember watching her from the stands as a student and thinking that was a mean, intense looking woman. As I got older and certainly after I met her, I came to realize what a special human being she was. RIP and condolences to Vol Nation.

Paul Finebaum is redeeming himself with this coverage. He's added a lot, including his memories from when he was a student-reporter. It's clear he respects her and is fairly torn up about it. And no, I never thought I would praise Finebaum so much.

He was on Sirius XM CH 82 this morning, it was only about 10 minuets was pretty stock stuff but it was only about three hours after the it happened. The man lost it in the coaching venue but there is no doubt that like Pat his blood will always run orange.

Makes me a little angry that Death took her so very quickly.

Thoughts and prayers for her and loved ones.

I sure hope they find a cure for Alzheimer’s disease, no loving family should ever have to endure this.

Coach Summitt was undoubtedly my favorite non-LSU college coach and one of those sport icons I've always admired and hoped for an-off-chance to meet. May her strong and courageous soul rest in peace

"Don't throw a pity party for me, it'll be a party of one". Pat Summitt right after she was diagnosed.

One of the all-time SEC greats and class acts. Sorry to hear she passed at such a young age.

What did she die of? It's my understanding that Alzheimer's/Dementia affects the mind, but it isn't fatal. Is that not correct?

Sorry to hear that. She was truly remarkable for the sport of women's basketball.
